<p>EXAMPLES OF DUTIES</p> <ul> <li>Respond to calls service of aggressive, diseased, abandoned, or stray animals </li><li>Respond to calls for service of dog bites or attacks on either people or other animals or both </li><li>Maintain radio contact with Kenton County Emergency Communications dispatch </li><li>Utilize commonly used systems within the department such as CAD System(Computer Aided Dispatch), LERMS (Law Enforcement Records Management System) and Shelter Software System </li><li>Investigate complaints of animal cruelty or neglect and enforce state laws/ county ordinances when applicable </li><li>Issue warnings or citations when applicable, for violations of local ordinances or state laws pertaining to animals </li><li>Assist local agencies as needed (Police, Fire, EMS, Emergency Management) </li><li>Utilize and maintain department issued equipment such as; catch pole, snappy snare, snake tongs, nets </li><li>Maintain department issued personal equipment such as duty belt, OC Spray (Oleoresin Capsicum), baton, bullet proof vest; PPE Equipment such as full face respirators, hazardous material suits, and hard hats </li><li>Captures stray, aggressive, abandoned, or sick domestic animals </li><li>Captures sick or aggressive wildlife </li><li>Transports animals to the animal shelter utilizing assigned county vehicle </li><li>Maintain accurate reports, documentation and files </li><li>May performs euthanasia to incurable and unadoptable animals when other resources have been utilized </li><li>May perform euthanasia on sick or aggressive wildlife </li><li>May testify in court </li><li>Assigned to on-call rotation for one (1) week, must be available 24/7 during that time </li><li>Assists in shelter when available. </li><li>May transport animals to offsite locations as requested. </li><li>Assists in answering inquiries, processing incoming animals, and solving problems as necessary. </li><li>Performs other duties as required. </li></ul> <p>DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Ability to work well alongside coworkers and the community </li><li>Ability to exercise good judgement and make rational decisions </li><li>Communicate effectively both orally and in writing, ability to comprehend basic written or verbal directives and perform directed task </li><li>Work well under pressure and with limited supervision </li><li>Work efficiently in stressful situations </li><li>Ability to multi-task </li><li>Basic math, reading and writing skills </li><li>Experience working with animals, working in an enforcement capacity, or any combination thereof </li></ul> <p>The above Job Description is intended to describe the general content of, and the requirements for, the performance of this job, including the essential functions. An employee in this position is responsible for the enforcement of county ordinances and state laws pertaining to animals. Duties are performed under standard supervision.</p> <p>NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <ul> <li>Possession of a valid driver's licenses </li><li>Possession of a high school diploma, or GED </li><li>Ability to work under pressure in high demand, stressful situations </li><li>Be available to work overtime as needed or required </li><li>Be able to work a rotational on-call schedule of one (1) week and be available 24/7 during that time to respond to emergency calls </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <ul> <li>Must be able to lift eighty (80) pounds or more to a height of four (4) feet or more. </li><li>Must be able to work extreme weather conditions such as rain, snow, or extreme heat. </li><li>Must be able to work extended periods of time using regular or powered hand tools and hand tools such as hammers, wrenches, brooms and mops, hoses, etc. </li><li>Must be able to work in confined spaces. </li><li>Must be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time. </li><li>Eye sight must be correctable to 20/20 vision. </li><li>Hearing must be within normal acceptable range of 20-25 with or without a hearing aid. </li><li>Must be able to wear a bullet-proof vest for extended periods. </li><li>Must be able to wear a full face respirator without and other hazardous material equipment on occasion and for extended periods of time. </li></ul> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
