<p>As a part of an assigned team, Campus Police Officers provide campus safety and law enforcement services to the College community. The individual provides a wide range of services, including both traditional and non-traditional police services. Officers are required to participate in crime prevention and community-oriented public safety programming.</p> <p>The successful candidate must project a positive image. Individuals enforce College regulations, local ordinances, and state laws. The individual is a first responder to incidents, accidents, and other emergency situations, and is responsible for conducting initial and follow-up investigations into significant and criminal incidents. The individual will work under the direction of an assigned officer.</p> <p>Overtime is mandatory.</p> <p>This is an entry level, sworn campus police position.</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>High School diploma or equivalent; some college education preferred </li><li>Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license </li><li>Must have never been convicted of a felony or domestic violence </li><li>Must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation </li><li>Must have completed an accredited Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy, have completed an equivalent law enforcement training program approved by the Mississippi Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission, or be able to complete the basic Police Academy course </li></ul> <p>ESEENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>The essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:</p> <ul> <li>Patrol assigned posts or areas either on foot, bike, or in a vehicle. </li><li>Actively participate in crime prevention and community policing activities. </li><li>Respond to routine and emergency calls for various types of service, many of which are unique to a campus environment and take action as necessary. </li><li>Conduct security inspections of College's facilities and areas, reporting conditions that present a hazard to the community. </li><li>Direct pedestrian and vehicle traffic and enforce parking and traffic regulations and laws. </li><li>Conduct investigations and submit reports of infractions of rules, code of conduct, and violations of state laws and local ordinances. </li><li>Apprehend offenders, when appropriate. </li><li>Testify in court and disciplinary proceedings, as required. </li><li>Provide safety escorts and other general services, including locking and unlocking buildings and rooms, as well as unlocking vehicles. </li><li>Work operational and special event overtime assignments. </li><li>Assist local police agencies as need or directed. </li><li>Perform other law enforcement and public safety related duties as assigned by the Chief of Police or his designee. </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES</p> <p>Successful candidates will participate in various training and development programs to ensure she/he acquires the technical and professional knowledge and skills needed for success in the position. The individual must successfully complete these programs to continue employment.</p> <p>These programs include, but are not limited to, the following: certified police academy, field training and evaluation program, first aid/CPR certification, and others.</p> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT</p> <ul> <li>Must be flexible to work all shifts when needed that includes weekends, holidays, and overtime. </li><li>Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work. </li><li>Must be able to remain on feet for long periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, carry, pull, push, climb, balance, walk, and run. </li><li>Must be able to restrain, lift and/or carry adults of varying weights. </li><li>Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including firearms, automobile, office equipment, radio, telephone, etc. </li><li>Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures and loud noises. </li><li>The work environment involves moderate exposure to hazards and physical risk to personal safety.
