<p>POSITION SUMMARY</p> <p>POSITION SUMMARY:</p> <p>An employee in this position performs semi-skilled trades work, park grounds maintenance, and custodial work involving a variety of building and grounds maintenance tasks assuring facilities are landscaped and maintained. This includes operating tractor and mowers to cut grass, trim, clean park grounds and facilities, and to perform other horticultural landscaping tasks.</p> <p>Hiring Range: $40,457.00</p> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:</p> <ul> <li>Prioritizes, performs, and leads varied maintenance and repair of the parks, facilities, and athletic fields; leads and participates with custodial work and maintenance trades; engages in repair of maintenance and cleaning equipment, park buildings, grounds, and other amenities. </li><li>Inspects park grounds, facilities, and equipment regularly and performs required maintenance and repair in conjunction with supervisor. </li><li>Serves as lead worker for assigned temporary workers to complete maintenance in a timely manner following safety standards. </li><li>Gives guidance and assistance in the execution of assignments and responsibilities; trains and instructs employees on an individual basis concerning areas of assigned work; trains new staff. </li><li>Makes small repairs to equipment such as mowers, tractors, and trimmers; changes blades and oil; replenishes fluids in equipment; reports equipment maintenance to supervisor. </li><li>Performs grounds maintenance duties including mowing grass, trimming shrubs and trees, fertilizes, plants and spreads seed and lime; applies mulch. </li><li>Operates heavy equipment such as backhoes, dump trucks, mowers, and other equipment. </li><li>Must be able to drive and operate a vehicle to travel as needed. </li><li>Drags and marks ball fields and levels dirt infields and base lines; operates mower with drag attachments and operates lining machines. </li><li>Performs cleaning of parks, buildings and grounds; picks up trash. </li><li>Operates trucks and tractors as required. </li><li>Sprays pesticides. </li><li>Maintains records of work activities and supplies used. </li><li>Leads Parks Maintenance Technician I. </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent; </li><li>Three (3) years of related experience; </li><li>Or equivalent education and/or experience. </li><li>Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license. </li><li>Ability to obtain Commercial Driver License (CDL) within 2 years of employment. </li><li>Ability to obtain an NC Pesticide License within 1 year of employment. </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of the standard methods, materials, and equipment utilized in the maintenance and cleaning of parks and county facilities. </li><li>Knowledge of the principles and techniques of carpentry, electrical, and plumbing trades. </li><li>Knowledge of standard hand tools, operation of light equipment, and materials used in assigned work. </li><li>Knowledge of the maintenance of grounds and horticultural practices. </li><li>Knowledge of custodial practices, supplies, and equipment. </li><li>Knowledge of safety regulations, occupational hazards and related safety precautions in the work. </li><li>Knowledge of painting trade skills. </li><li>Skill in the operation of assigned equipment and tools, tractor, riding mowers, drag and line attachments, chain saws, etc. </li><li>Skill in the use and care of tools. </li><li>Ability to serve as a lead worker to create a productive work team and ensure work is completed correctly and safely. </li><li>Ability to maintain records of work activities. </li><li>Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to give clear oral instructions. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and County clients, and the general public. </li></ul> <p>SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION</p> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p> <p>Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently; and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work also involves the physical abilities of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, and hearing. An incumbent must also possess the visual acuity to operate machines such as drills, power saws, to perform skilled trade tasks on non-repetitive nature, and to keep and maintain various records.</p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT:</p> <p>The employee is subjected to inside and outside environmental hazards including exposures to noise, vibrations, proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working in high places, exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and oils. Duties may result in exposure to human body fluids and thus the work is subject to OSHA standards on blood borne pathogens.</p>
