<p>Westfield Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for a second grade teacher at Highland Avenue Elementary School for the 2025-2026 school year.</p> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>Under the direction of authorized administrators shall:</p> <ul> <li>Teach students utilizing a course of study adopted by the Westfield Public Schools and appropriate curriculum programs as resources in teaching individual course content. </li><li>Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. </li><li>Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide differentiated and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. </li><li>Translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction. </li><li>Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports. </li><li>Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. </li><li>Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and interpret the school program. </li><li>Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, social/emotional, and learning difficulties. </li><li>Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and work centers. </li><li>Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities. </li><li>Select and requisition books and instructional materials. </li><li>Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day. </li><li>Administer benchmark assessments and standardized tests in accordance with district testing program. </li><li>Analyze student data and utilize results to plan instruction. </li><li>Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities. </li><li>Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the building principal or the Superintendent of Schools. </li></ul> <p>REPORTS TO:</p> <p>Building Principal</p> <p>Salary and terms of employment will be commensurate with the Westfield Public Schools Unit A contract. Salary placement will be based on information contained in the application as submitted.</p> <p>Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Westfield School Committee policy on evaluation.</p> <p>This position is subject to funding.</p>
