Applicants who have experience working in urban schools and settings and are bilingual are strongly encouraged to apply.</p> <p>What You'll Do:</p> <p>The Student Athletics and Activities Specialist will work to both strengthen and expand Salem High School's student athletics and activities programs and opportunities. The Specialist will assist the Salem Public Schools' Athletic Director in the daily operations of the Athletic Department at Salem High School working to ensure both smooth operations and quality experiences for students. Over time, the person in this role will work to increase student engagement in school athletics (both middle and high school) as well as other student activities.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Support the Athletic Director in the daily operations of the athletic department </li><li>Assist with Scheduling games, transportation, officials, and practice times </li><li>Supervise athletic events, ensuring safety, sportsmanship, and efficient operations </li><li>Serve as a liaison between coaches, students, parents, and school administration </li><li>Serve on the Athletics Committee and work to strengthen engagement between Salem Public Schools and community partners who facilitate athletics opportunities for Salem children across the city. </li><li>Serve on the Hall of Fame committee </li><li>Monitor student-athlete eligibility and academic performance </li><li>Help coordinate athletic department communications and social media </li><li>Assist in managing equipment inventory and facility use </li><li>Support compliance with school, league, and state athletic association policies </li><li>Promote inclusivity and positive team culture across all sports programs </li><li>Support the strengthening of boosters for athletic department </li></ul> <p>What You'll Bring:</p> <p>We are looking for candidates with diverse backgrounds and experiences who are inspired by our mission and are highly motivated to change children's lives through education. You model persistence and a growth mindset and thrive in a culture of feedback. </li></ul> <p>Job Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree Required; Master's Degree preferred </li><li>Relevant Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure </li><li>Dual Certification (content area) a plus </li><li>Previous experience in high school or collegiate athletics, coaching, or related roles </li><li>Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the District and/or self-selected professional growth activities. </li><li>A minimum of 2 years of teaching experience and working in an urban public school or charter school setting is preferred. </li><li>Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for athletic events </li><li>Knowledge of athletic league rules and state association policies (e.g., MIAA, NCAA, etc.) </li><li>CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) </li><li>Proficiency with technology (blended learning, teacher/family communication suites (Remind preferred), Google G-Suite Apps, etc.) desirable. </li><li>Ability to meet the expectations of the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice </li><li>Bilingual candidates and candidates of color strongly encouraged to apply </li><li>Current authorization to work in the United States </li></ul> <p>Work Year: Salem Public Schools teachers work a 185-day school year (180 student contact days plus 5 professional development days).
