<p>Salary - $18.87/per hour </p> <p>POSITION OPEN UNTIL FILLED</p> <p>CURRENT RECRUITMENT IS FOR THE MARINE AND AVIATION DEPARTMENT. POSITIONS INCLUDE WORKING AT THE BEACH MARINA OR HARBOR MARINA.</p> <p>The City of Clearwater has a need for temporary variable employees to supplement our permanent workforce. These variable employees are invaluable in meeting the mission of the agency. </p> <p>The definition of a Variable Employee:</p> <ul> <li>Average weekly hours cannot be determined at date of hire. </li><li>Hours may vary from week to week and are anticipated to be 28 hours per week or less. </li><li>NOTE: Will be considered full-time and eligible for medical coverage if hours average 30 hours per week or more over a 12-month measurement period (or 130 hours per month). </li></ul> <p>Under direct supervision, the Variable Marine Facility Operator is responsible for all sales, service, maintenance, and operation of municipal fuel docks, piers, and convenience store/bait house facilities.</p> <p>Essential Functions: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:</p> <ul> <li>Dispenses, delivers, and assists with marine fuels and lubricants to a variety of watercraft; performs tasks effectively, efficiently, and in compliance with safety standards and protocols. </li><li>Monitors all areas and ensures that all appropriate safety precautions are observed at the marina, pier, or convenience store/bait house. </li><li>Receives and accounts for cash, processes checks, and accepts credit card sales; monitors sales and maintains accurate accounting for daily revenues. </li><li>Prepares daily shift reports and records; receives, accounts for, and inventories fuel and convenience store/bait house inventories; stocks and prices merchandise, organizes items, and maintains store. </li><li>Monitors, watches, and evaluates docks, piers, and moored watercraft through periodic inspections; adjusts and re-positions mooring lines as needed; dependent on location, enforces and verifies fishing passes, pier rules, and marina rules. </li><li>Engages, meets, and confers with various community members to answer telephone calls and provides marine and fishing related information. </li><li>Dependent on location, collects transient slip rentals and issues parking permits and fishing passes. </li><li>Performs minor maintenance, custodial assignments, and other marine, pier, or convenience store/bait house tasks as directed; makes safety announcements to the public due to weather or adverse conditions. </li><li>Reads and records electric meters for the boat dock; assists with sewage pump outs of boats and provides immediate response to fuel spills and boat fires. </li><li>Cleans and maintains pier walkways and garbage cans; straightens, organizes, and stocks merchandise. </li><li>Dependent on location, performs minor maintenance repairs on rental equipment; prepares, issues, and processes equipment rental and live bait transactions. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Licenses or Certifications:</p> <p>A valid State driver's license is required.</p> <p> </p> <p>Education and Experience:</p> <p>High School Diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate PLUS one (1) year of experience in boating, bait house operations, customer service and/or related activities which includes six (6) months of experience handling money and making change; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Knowledge of -</p> <ul> <li>General marine practices related to fueling and mooring vessels </li><li>Shop and storekeeping </li><li>Local and surrounding beach and geographic areas and attractions </li><li>Fishing practices and related fishing regulations </li><li>Record keeping, report preparation, filing methods, and records </li><li>General office policies and procedures; computers and general office equipment </li></ul> <p>Skill in -</p> <ul> <li>Making repairs to fiberglass boats </li><li>Handling money, making change, and handling payments </li><li>Working rotating shifts </li><li>Providing general information to boaters, pier customers, and tourists </li><li>Creating clear and concise reports </li><li>Establishing good relationships with patrons, event planners, and fellow staff </li><li>Making decisions in a fast-paced environment </li><li>Operating a computer with proficiency; typing and software </li></ul>
