<p>Job Title: Distribution Engineer</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>We are seeking a skilled Distribution Engineer to lead engineering efforts for fiber-to-distribution (FTD) projects across multiple circuits within our Distribution Department. This role involves optimizing route plans based on fiber standards and real-world constraints, ensuring high-quality route decisions, and advising on future-proof design strategies.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Lead engineering efforts for fiber-to-distribution (FTD) projects across multiple circuits. </li><li>Optimize route plans, including length, splice placement, constructability, and redundancy, based on fiber standards. </li><li>Interpret pole data and utilize shapefiles, ArcGIS Pro, and tools like Street View to inform high-quality route decisions. </li><li>Collaborate with teams using CrescentLink, 3-GIS, or similar platforms for mapping and fiber planning. </li><li>Work with design, PM, and QA/QC teams to improve efficiency, reduce rework, and ensure field readiness. </li><li>Advise on future-proof design strategies, such as Viper placements, recloser strategy, and redundancy, recognizing value opportunities for cost and time savings. </li><li>Take ownership in proactively identifying issues, elevating engineering standards, and driving first-pass quality. </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills</p> <ul> <li>Five to 10+ years of fiber design experience in utility distribution settings. </li><li>Strong understanding of fiber cable types, optical route planning, GPON, ONT/OLT systems, and overall network architecture. </li><li>Experience integrating various fiber network configurations, including overhead, underground, and long-haul fiber, into cohesive distribution designs. </li><li>Deep knowledge of splice planning, storage loop placement, pole attachments, and constructability best practices. </li><li>Proficient in ArcGIS Pro with working knowledge of CrescentLink, 3-GIS, or equivalent fiber mapping tools. </li><li>Familiar with client fiber processes, including JETS OSP Insight SCADA workflows and GIS/OSP shapefile and pole data analysis. </li></ul> <p>Additional Skills & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Prior experience supporting projects for Southern Company, Alabama Power, or Georgia Power. </li><li>Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or EIT designation. </li><li>Hands-on experience with distribution automation, including recloser integration and SCADA path planning. </li><li>Experience mentoring other engineers or reviewing work across multiple circuits. </li><li>Understanding of fiber optic redundancy design principles and strategic placement planning. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>This position will primarily be remote, with occasional travel required.
