<p>ANTICIPATED K-8 VISUAL ARTS TEACHER</p> <p>DESCRIPTION:</p> <p>Everett Public Schools Art teachers must demonstrate expertise and knowledge in a range of visual 2-D & 3-D art techniques, skills and media at the K-8 level. Art teachers are responsible for utilizing pedagogical strategies to engage diverse groups of students in grades K-8 in the visual arts via the district's curricula. Art teachers must exercise a genuine passion and dedication for fostering and growing students' artistic talents and technical skills through visual arts, while being a motivated, collaborative and a positive team player as part of the Art Department.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>Instruction & Curriculum Development:</p> <ul> <li>Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging, hands-on art lessons and curricula for all learners including students with disabilities and multilingual learners aligned with Massachusetts DESE Visual Art Frameworks, district's art curricula, and the district's goals. </li><li>Use all available technology and virtual curricula provided by the district to create engaging lessons and supports that are linked with 21st-century skills. </li><li>Foster a classroom environment and create lessons that promotes creativity, technical skill, experimentation, and self-expression. </li><li>Regularly and consistently manage and maintain art supplies, materials and art spaces. </li></ul> <p>Student Engagement & Support:</p> <ul> <li>Manage classroom behavior with positive behavior intervention strategies and social-emotional learning strategies that motivate students to create a positive learning culture. </li><li>Creates and maintains a positive, safe, supportive, organized and inclusive classroom environment by establishing classroom routines and systems to support student learning. </li><li>Encourage and support students' artistic growth and development through individualized attention. </li></ul> <p>Provide and participate in opportunities for students to participate in art exhibitions, competitions, and community and school art events.</p> <ul> <li>Collaborate with guidance counselors and school adjustment counselors to refer students who need social-emotional support. </li><li>Review education plans and ensure all accommodations are properly and consistently delivered. </li><li>Collaborate with Special Education and EL teachers to provide the highest quality instruction and support for Special Education Students and Multilingual Learners. </li><li>Assess the needs of students and evaluate student progress towards standards and benchmarks. </li></ul> <p>Maintain a culturally responsive approach to communication with students, student counselors, and families on a regular basis through conferences, quarterly reports, and other means.</p> <p>Professional Culture, Collaboration & Professional Development:</p> <ul> <li>Employ a strong growth mindset and participate in professional development relevant to students' needs. </li></ul> <p>Maintain excellent communication skills and foster positive professional relationships with students, families, and staff.</p> <ul> <li>Create and manage ongoing student in-person and virtual art exhibits and displays. </li><li>Collaborate closely with K-12 Art Department staff in a positive and team-building way on curricula and department related events and other initiatives. </li><li>Attend all building, department and professional development meetings. </li></ul> <p>Participate in all department and building professional activities.</p> <ul> <li>Proctor assessments for students on exams, including formative and summative assessments, MCAS, and ACCESS. </li><li>Support the building and Art Department climate that the Principal, Assistant /Vice Principals and Arts Coordinator establish by supporting all building, district, and Art Department policies. </li><li>Contribute to school-wide & district wide initiatives and events, which may be assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principals and the Arts Coordinator. </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree in Art Education or Fine Arts. </li><li>Valid Massachusetts DESE teaching certification in Visual Arts, PreK-8 and/or 5-12.. </li><li>Knowledge of Massachusetts DESE Visual Arts Frameworks instruction. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, parents, and administrators. </li><li>Demonstrate a commitment to excellence, equity, and high expectations for all students, emphasizing building strengths that students bring to the teaching/learning process. </li><li>Ability to collect, interpret, and disseminate data to teachers to improve instruction and learning. </li><li>Strong classroom management skills. </li><li>Excellent written and verbal skills in English. </li><li>Exhibits positivity and excitement, is receptive to feedback, and contributes positively to the Art Department and school community. </li><li>Works well independently and as part of a team. </li><li>Exhibits flexibility and adaptability to adjustments of practice. </li><li>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. </li><li>Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. </li><li>Experience teaching 2-D & 3-D visual art K-8. </li><li>Presentation of an art & teaching portfolio and philosophy. </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Master's Degree in Art Education or Fine Arts </li><li>2 or more years of K-8 visual art teaching experience </li><li>SEI Endorsement </li></ul>
