This role assists in the development of program operating procedures and policies and serves as a liaison for body donors and their families, as well as for healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and clinical partners from hospitals, nursing homes, and hospice facilities. This position is dedicated to ensuring a compassionate and professional experience during a sensitive time, prioritizing the confidentiality and dignity of all individuals involved. The Anatomical Donor Program Coordinator serves as a check-and-balance on several protocols to ensure high-level security and management of highly sensitive inventory that is subject to various state and federal laws and regulations. Primary activities and decision-making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree. This position is essential to the seamless operation of the Body Donor Program and Gross Anatomy Lab.</p> <p>Position Responsibilities:</p> <p>Embalming:</p> <ul> <li>Clean, sanitize, and prepare bodies for embalming. Perform embalming procedures to preserve and prepare human bodies for HCOM's educational purposes, including arterial and hypodermic embalming, as well as specialized brain injections for preservation. Ensure each donor is properly prepared and tagged for identification. Utilize appropriate embalming chemicals and solutions, ensuring safe handling at all times. </li><li>Provide exceptional customer service by managing complex and sensitive correspondence with donors and their families, as well as facilitating the exchange of cadavers with partnering institutions. </li><li>Serve as the liaison to donors and their families, providing support and information throughout the donation process. Conduct thorough evaluations of potential donors to assess eligibility for the Body Donor Program, ensuring donors meet program criteria. Record, package, and mail cremated remains to donor families, ensuring accuracy and adherence to all procedures while respecting the family's wishes. Plan annual memorial service for body donors, coordinating logistics, organizing contributions from participants, and ensuring that the ceremony is both respectful and meaningful, honoring the donors while providing support to their families. </li><li>Serve as liaison to partnering institutions, coordinating with physicians from hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, and donor families to complete and file death certificates with the state, ensuring all information is accurate and confidential. Safely place and transport multiple body donors in cremation boxes to and from various educational institutions and facilities, ensuring compliance with all state and federal laws and that necessary documentation accompanies the donors. Build relationships, communicate, and coordinate with other institutions and universities to ensure the smooth coordination of transportation schedules. </li></ul> <p>Donor Transportation:</p> <ul> <li>Respond to "death calls" and travel to pick up recently deceased bodies willed to the program. This includes being on call after hours to coordinate the collection of cadavers as needed. Inspect cadavers along with medical history to independently determine if donors meet program eligibility requirements. </li></ul> <p>Body Donor Program Security:</p> <ul> <li>Ensure strict adherence to all protocols designed to meet the Anatomy Lab's high-security requirements, including multiple layers of checks and balances to safeguard the inventory of cadavers. Responsible for ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations governing the handling of cadavers. </li><li>Ensures donors are set up with the appropriate identifiable information, including data from the physician's EMR and personal history. </li></ul> <p>Gross Anatomy Lab Support:</p> <ul> <li>Prepare donors in the Anatomy lab by removing them from storage bags and positioning them on tables according to specified protocols. Ensure each donor is set up with the appropriate identifiable information provided by the physician's EMR and personal history. Test and sterilize equipment, including skeletons, models, and instruments, before each lab session. Monitor and maintain inventory of supplies essential for the Body Donor Program and Anatomy labs. Record and maintain accurate student attendance during lab sessions. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree. </li><li>1 year of related professional experience and a fundamental scientific background in embalming </li><li>Valid driver's license to preform donor pickups and transport donors to different facilities. </li><li>Must be willing to obtain State of Ohio Clerk for Death Certificate and complete Bloodborne Pathogen training. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Mortuary Science or Biology preferred. </li></ul> <p>Department HCOM - Biomedical Sciences Pay Rate</p> <p>The approved hiring range for this position is $44,592-$59,085. Offers outside of this range of subject to additional approvals.
