<p>The department of Facilities Management at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Trades Specialist Plumbing Lead.</p> <p>About the opportunity:</p> <p>Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor the incumbent is responsible for performing plumbing duties as assigned to include pipefitting and sprinkler fitting. Required to perform journeyman level craftsmanship duties during both installation of new construction and general maintenance of existing facilities and research facilities as directed.</p> <p>We strongly believe in work-life balance and keeping time for things we love outside our work. Check out retirement health insurance benefits, retirement income, and FAQ's. </li><li>Wellness programs </li></ul> <p>What you'll do:</p> <ul> <li>Functions as a team leader, providing guidance to journeymen, trades workers, and any other support personnel as required. Follows procedures and makes work assignments to those individuals assigned to the crew to ensure work is completed in a timely fashion ensuring proper quality and quantity. Inspects completed work assignments of journeymen craft workers, trades workers, and helpers to ensure quality control. Ensures that proper safety procedures are used while performing job duties. </li><li>Receives work orders. Interfaces with Control Center, Supervisors, Managers, and requesting party to finalize job assignments. Assists Supervisor with multi-craft projects related to overall work assignments. Communicates work schedules and goals to employees and customer, creating efficiency and a timely completion of assigned tasks. </li><li>Provides continual inspection of assigned area to ensure construction, maintenance, and renovation projects are completed on schedule; recommends to the Supervisor major repair needs; assists in updating deferred maintenance. </li><li>Individual will have responsibility to read and review prints on new and existing building projects for construction, repair or renovation associated with specific job duties and expertise. Individual will also assist with information for development of as-built sketches of completed projects. </li><li>Determines and recommends to the Supervisor the needs of the project in regard to crew size, types of crafts, material availability, equipment, paperwork, safety checks to maintain proper work and material flow in order to maintain schedule. </li><li>Provides continual updates on progress of assigned construction and maintenance projects. Maintains the original scope of project to ensure project cost control. Ensures that work group processes all work requests, material requisitions, weekly reports, and invoices necessary to complete assignments. </li><li>May fill in for supervisor. Must be able to operate computers utilizing various software programs such as: building maintenance management programs involving work orders and materials accountability, building support systems and other systems as necessary. </li></ul> <p>Journeyman Duties - Renovation:</p> <ul> <li>Fabricate, install and/or modifies in support for renovation all distribution lines associated with HVAC, chilled water, steam, condensate, domestic water (hot and cold), distilled water, deionized water, reverse osmosis water, compressed air, vacuum, sanitary, drainage, sprinkler fire protection, gas, oxygen, medical air, acid pumps, etc. in accordance with blue prints or code requirements. </li><li>Fabricate, install and/or modify all systems supporting research equipment, or renovation requiring distribution lines for various gases, water, air, etc. in accordance with blue prints, code requirements or equipment specifications. </li><li>Fabricate, install, and/or modifies various distribution lines requiring connections such as air conditioning units, refrigeration units, incubators, automatic air tables, dish washing machines, laundry equipment, MRI, Pet Scan, air handlers, medical equipment and air compressors in accordance with blue prints, code requirements or equipment specifications. </li><li>Fabricate, install and/or modifies various connections, extensions or establish distribution pathways to meet stringent specifications related to renovation, code compliance, research specifications, etc. for fire protection sprinkler lines, connections or devices. </li></ul> <p>Journeyman Duties - Maintenance/Repair:</p> <ul> <li>Maintains, repairs, and/or modifies all distribution lines associated with HVAC, Chilled water, steam, condensate, domestic water (hot and cold), distilled water, deionized water, reverse osmosis water, compressed air, vacuum, sanitary, drainage, sprinkler fire protection, gas, oxygen, medical air, acid pumps, etc. </li><li>Maintains repairs, tests, and/or modifies all systems supporting research equipment requiring distribution lines for various gases, water, air, etc. </li><li>Maintains, repairs, and/or modifies various distribution lines requiring connections such as air conditioning units, refrigeration units, incubators, automatic air tables, dish washing machines, laundry equipment, MRI, Pet Scan, air handlers, medical equipment and air compressors. </li><li>Maintains, repairs or install various connections to meet stringent specifications related to code compliance, research specifications, etc. for fire protection sprinkler lines, connections or devices. </li><li>Operates various equipment associated with the plumbing/pipe fitting/sprinkler trade such as threading machines, high pressure sprinkler connecting device, camera investigation equipment, etc. </li><li>Utilize various hand tools associated with the plumbing/pipe fitting/sprinkler trade. </li></ul> <p>Pay Grade: PG15</p> <p>Hours: 7-3p</p> <ul> <li> <p>High School Diploma or GED</p> </li><li> <p>Must have one of the following:</p> </li><li> <p>2 years experience in the maintenance and repair of piping and/or steam distribution system.</p> </li><li> <p>Completion of an associate degree in plumbing.</p> </li><li> <p>Completion of a 2-year accredited vocational plumbing program.</p> </li><li> <p>Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered</p> </li><li> <p>All qualifications must be met by the time of employment</p> </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated ability to be proficient in all aspects of plumbing/pipe fitting/sprinkler trade </li><li>Ability to read and interpret blue prints </li><li>Ability to read and interpret safety regulations </li><li>Ability to participate in medical monitoring program </li><li>Ability to be confidential regarding medical information </li><li>Ability to remain calm during emergency situations </li><li>Must be able to work around human and animal research projects </li><li>Demonstrated ability at problem solving and investigation techniques for various equipment </li><li>Knowledge of local, state and federal building codes </li><li>Ability to operate a computer and associated software applications </li><li>Be proficient in operation of various shop equipment </li><li>Must have proficient leadership skills </li><li>Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, crawl and carry </li><li>Ability to continue formal training as may be required for equipment, materials, plumbing, pipefitting and sprinkler trade </li><li>Must have a broad knowledge of building trades </li><li>Must have good eye to hand coordination </li><li>Must be able to work around moving equipment </li><li>Ability to train, teach and share information </li><li>Ability to work in a team environment </li><li>Demonstrated ability to adapt to a wide variety of work settings and changing environments </li><li>Must be able to set goals, meet deadlines and maintain proper attendance levels </li><li>Be able to lift heavy objects between 50-75 pounds. </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands & Physical Coordination:</p> <ul> <li>Will be required to perform physical exertion such as the lifting of heavy items up to 75 pounds, deep bending, climbing, crawling and/or working in difficult or cramped positions for long periods of time. </li></ul>
