<p>Teaching Assistant (Middle School) JobID: 1381</p> <p>Position Type:</p> <p>Pupil Personnel Services</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>2/5/2026</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>Eastchester Middle School</p> <p>Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>Teaching Assistant - Middle School</p> <p>Position Purpose</p> <p>Under the direct supervision of a certified special education teacher, the teaching assistant supports implementing instructional programs and meeting students' individualized learning goals. The teaching assistant works directly with students in the Special Class setting to reinforce instruction, provide targeted support during small group and individual instruction, and assist with student management needs. Responsibilities include supporting the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), helping to monitor and reinforce positive behaviors, and assisting with data collection as directed. The teaching assistant also supports students during transitions throughout the school day, helps maintain a safe and structured learning environment, and promotes student engagement, independence, and access to instruction.</p> <p>Essential Job Functions</p> <ul> <li>Assists and guides students to reinforce skills in reading, language arts, mathematics, and other curricular areas. </li><li>Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce learning, support differentiated instruction, and implement assigned instructional programs. </li><li>Assists with classroom preparation and instructional strategies to reinforce materials and skills according to individual student needs and IEP goals. </li><li>Supports the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and classroom behavior management strategies to promote positive behavior, minimize disruptions, and maintain a safe, structured, and orderly learning environment. </li><li>Assists with student management needs, including supporting routines, transitions between activities and locations, and helping students remain engaged and on task. </li><li>Assists with record keeping and data collection procedures to document student learning, progress, and performance as directed by instructional staff. </li><li>Assists students with special needs in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion, access to instruction, and achievement of IEP objectives. </li><li>Assists students in non instructional settings, including supervising lunch, hallways, arrival and dismissal, and other related activities. </li><li>Accompanies students on field trips and school activities for the purpose of providing supervision and appropriate support. </li><li>Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures, and regulations governing the proper assistance and supervision of all students, including those with disabilities and other special needs. </li></ul> <p>Additional Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Assists guidance, PPS staff, and building administration as needed in support of students and school programs. </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned in accordance with building and district needs. </li></ul> <p>Note: The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities. It is not meant to be all inclusive of every task or responsibility.</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. </li><li>Ability to perform mathematical operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as needed to assist students with instructional activities. </li><li>Ability to understand, apply, and use personal devices and common software applications, including a Chromebook and Google Classroom. </li><li>Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees, and others in accordance with district policies and legal requirements. </li><li>Ability to establish supportive, respectful, and compassionate relationships with students with special needs. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with students, staff, and others encountered in the course of work. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to report information to a supervisor as required. </li><li>Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications Profile</p> <ul> <li>Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for successful performance of the job will be considered qualifying. Typical qualifications include: </li><li>Successful completion of college level coursework or passage of a qualifying examination, as required by applicable NY state regulations. </li><li>Prior experience working with students with special needs is preferred. </li></ul> <p>Employment Terms:</p> <ul> <li>10-month, probationary position </li><li>Base Salary range in accordance with the Eastchester Teachers Association (ETA) negotiated salary schedule: $30,048-$43,936 </li><li>Fingerprint Clearance: SAVE Law: Effective July 1, 2001, Education Law §§305(30), 3004-b, 3004-c and 3035, as amended by Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and Part 87 of the Commissioner's Regulations require the Commissioner of Education to request a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check for applicants for certification as well as for prospective employees of school districts, charter schools and boards of cooperative educational services (BOCES).
