This law is intended to improve wage transparency. The City of Greeley, in support of wage transparency posts both the full salary range for each position (what you might anticipate your earnings could be if you work for the City of Greeley for some time), as well as the anticipated hiring range (the range within which the City anticipates making an offer). Please view our benefits guide here.</p> <p>Job Summary: Cemetery Technicians are responsible for maintaining the grounds, performing duties associated with individual burials, providing direct assistance to customers including families, vendors, and funeral homes. Technicians assist with property sales and services, service preparation, setting memorials, and after-care of the service area including turf maintenance and automated sprinkler system maintenance, and records management, and office coverage.</p> <p>Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Education:</p> <p>Minimum Requirements</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent. </li><li>Two (2) years' grounds maintenance, irrigation repair and/or concrete flat work experience and/or a combination or experience and education. </li><li>Specialized training beyond normally gained in a program of less than 18 months duration desired. </li><li>Possess a valid Colorado driver's license and a good driving record. </li></ul> <p>Preferred</p> <ul> <li>English/Spanish bilingual skills desired. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge in the use of operating hand and power tools. </li><li>Ability to safely and efficiently operate midsize equipment in hazardous environment. </li><li>Ability to operate mid-size excavation equipment as well as all grounds maintenance equipment (e.g., backhoe, dump truck, commercial mowers, etc.). </li><li>Knowledge of the business and organizational structure of Colorado municipalities. </li><li>Collaboration skills, including the ability to work with others from different areas and backgrounds to reach a common goal. </li><li>Computer skills, including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and learn and experiment with new software and systems. </li><li>Interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate interaction, communication, and teamwork between others. </li><li>Oral, written, and listening communication skills, including the ability to accurately interpret what others are saying and convey messages, information, concepts, and details accurately and clearly. </li><li>Organizational skills, including the ability to set and meet goals and deadlines, manage appointments, create schedules, coordinate and facilitate meetings, and make decisions. </li><li>Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple concurrent and competing tasks and responsibilities, and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining personal effectiveness. </li><li>Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and stay on task when completing special projects and daily assignments. </li><li>Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and reliable professional judgment, as well as collaboratively with a team to achieve desired results. </li><li>Ability to maintain a strong work ethic, positive problem-solving attitude, and enthusiasm for the work performed. </li><li>Ability to self-start and take initiative in completing daily tasks and special projects. </li><li>Ability to focus on activities that have the greatest impact on meeting work commitments. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain partnerships with a variety of internal and external constituencies. </li><li>Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and ages. </li><li>Ability to navigate a complex political environment. </li></ul> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Prepares for interment including layout, excavation, and set-up, excavation and compaction, turf care, and memorial foundation installation. </li><li>Provides turf care including watering program, fertilization program, mowing schedule and fill program, weed abatement, irrigation, and addressing continual settling of graves and turf troubleshooting. </li><li>Assists in pre-need and at-need sales of property and opening and closing services, taking of complaints and providing office support. </li><li>Works during special functions including Memorial Day, Wreaths Across America, Volunteer weekend projects, and History tours. </li><li>Provides maintenance records including mechanical preventive maintenance and repair, parts and usage and replacement, grounds fertilization program, and fuel records and inventory. </li><li>Maintains and repairs automated irrigation system. </li><li>Provides upkeep of buildings, roads, other grounds maintenance i.e. fence repair, signs, cold storage/fill medium area, snow removal, and tree care. </li><li>Provides customer service working with industry partners concerning foundation orders, burial vaults, and services; consulting with family members concerning maintenance requests and concerns; and following through with game plans. </li><li>Provides direction to staff; this position works in concert with a steady stream of community service volunteers as well as seasonal labor. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment and Physical Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Exposure to trench work and heavy equipment on a daily bases; </li><li>Exposure to adverse weather conditions; </li><li>Exposure to various types of machinery noise - some levels are excessive; </li><li>Exposure to hazardous chemicals; </li><li>Employee is subject to driving City vehicle in all weather conditions; </li><li>Employee may be asked to drive personal vehicle for business purposes; </li><li>Employee is subject to working alone, with groups, and/or attends meetings; </li><li>Employee may be required to conduct business in alternate locations within City buildings or field sites, sometimes in formal settings; </li><li>Employee may be required to work extended hours in the evening, holidays, or weekends; </li><li>Employee may have frequent interruptions and be required to manage competing priorities with inflexible deadlines; </li><li>Employee may have frequent contact with the public--in person, via email/telephone, sometimes facing adverse or confrontational situations with internal/external customers; </li><li>Environment is dangerous to having considerable hazards that reflect a frequent exposure to conditions that are unpredictable and may lead to injury; Cemetery Techs are continually exposed to heavy equipment on a daily bases; </li><li>Communication skills to interface with other departments and the public verbally and in writing; </li><li>Vision enough to perform functions such as identifying materials necessary to complete maintenance on equipment and grounds and to operate vehicles and equipment; </li><li>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms in the operation of tools, vehicles and equipment; </li><li>Flexibility enough to bend, twist and reach as to load and unload equipment, supplies or tools; </li><li>Ability to move over rough, uneven and rocky surfaces in performance of grounds maintenance; </li><li>The employee frequently is required to stand; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
