<p>Duties</p> <p>The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors within assigned school facilities. This individual performs a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure the overall functionality and appearance of the school buildings and grounds.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Cleaning and Sanitation:</p> </li><li> <p>Clean and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, offices, hallways, cafeterias, gymnasiums, and other assigned areas using appropriate cleaning solutions and equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Sweep, mop, vacuum, and wax floors.</p> </li><li> <p>Dust furniture, fixtures, and equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Empty trash and recycling bins and ensure proper disposal.</p> </li><li> <p>Clean and disinfect water fountains and other high-touch surfaces.</p> </li><li> <p>Restock restroom supplies (e.g., soap, paper towels, toilet paper).</p> </li><li> <p>Clean windows and mirrors.</p> </li><li> <p>Address spills and other cleaning emergencies promptly.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintenance and Minor Repairs:</p> </li><li> <p>Perform minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs, unclogging drains, and tightening loose fixtures.</p> </li><li> <p>Report any major maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate personnel.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist with setting up and tearing down for school events, meetings, and activities, including moving tables and chairs.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain grounds by picking up litter, sweeping walkways, and assisting with other outdoor maintenance tasks as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure that heating, cooling, and ventilation systems are functioning properly and report any issues.</p> </li><li> <p>Safety and Security:</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to safety procedures and using personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.</p> </li><li> <p>Secure buildings after hours by locking doors and windows and setting alarms (if applicable).</p> </li><li> <p>Report any safety hazards, security concerns, or suspicious activity to the appropriate personnel.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist with emergency procedures as directed.</p> </li><li> <p>Inventory and Supplies:</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor and maintain an adequate inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Inform the Head Custodian or Facilities Manager when supplies need to be ordered.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure proper storage and organization of cleaning supplies and equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Other Duties:</p> </li><li> <p>Assist with deliveries and moving items within the school.</p> </li><li> <p>Follow all school district policies and procedures.</p> </li><li> <p>Interact respectfully and professionally with students, staff, and visitors.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Custodian, Facilities Manager, or Principal.</p> </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent preferred. </li><li>Previous custodial or cleaning experience is desirable but not always required. </li><li>Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment. </li><li>Ability to operate and maintain cleaning equipment safely and effectively. </li><li>Ability to follow oral and written instructions. </li><li>Ability to work independently and as part of a team. </li><li>Strong attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness. </li><li>Basic knowledge of safety procedures and practices. </li><li>Physical stamina and the ability to lift and move heavy objects (e.g., trash cans, furniture). </li><li>Ability to pass a background check as required by the school district. </li></ul> <p>Salary/Benefits</p> <p>Salary/Benefits Include:</p> <ul> <li>Starting hourly pay of $15.78; $16.57 as of July 1 </li><li>Health Insurance Benefits </li><li>Vision and Dental Insurance Options </li><li>IMRF retirement </li></ul> <p>How to Apply</p> <p>Please submit your completed district application (can be found on our district jobs board website by clicking HERE) and resume and any letters of recommendation to Billy Coble, NCCUSD Director of Building and Grounds, at bcoble@northclayschools.com .
