Candidates chosen for next steps will be contacted for next steps.</p> <p>Schedule: This is a substitute position with no guarantee of hours or days for the 2025-2026 school year.</p> <p>Location: Varies</p> <p>Salary: $17.50 per hour</p> <p>FLSA Status: Non-Exempt</p> <p>Overview</p> <p>The job of Para Educator is done for the purpose/s of supporting and assisting in the supervision and instruction of students; performing classroom clerical tasks; providing general classroom assistance. Duties could include: prepare and organize classroom materials, clean, and disinfect toys and mats; providing one-on-one tutoring; assisting with classroom management; providing instructional assistance; conducting parental involvement activities; providing support in learning centers; assisting with the implementation of student educational plans; and providing instructional support services under the direct supervision of a teacher.</p> <p>Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Must be at least 18 years of age. </li><li>High school graduation or equivalent (required document on application to be considered). </li><li>Completed two (2) years (72 quarter or 48 semester credits) of study at an institution of higher learning OR AA degree or higher from an approved institution, OR completion of the ETS ParaPro Assessment with a passing score (required document on application to be considered). </li><li>To register for the ETS ParaPro Assessment test, go to: </li></ul> <p>www.esd113.org/Page/2433</p> <ul> <li>Ability to pass a federal background check. </li><li>Depending on assignment, fluency in Spanish and English may be required. </li><li>Skills are required to perform multiple, non-technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include basic word processing and keying preferred. </li><li>Knowledge is required to minimally perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percent, and/or ratios </li><li>Understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. </li><li>Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes age-appropriate activities. </li><li>Willingness to actively support Shelton School District's Strategic plan and initiatives. </li><li>Ability to develop and maintain structures and routines that are conducive to an effective, safe, and welcoming environment. </li><li>Ability to maintain an upbeat, positive, and collaborative demeanor. </li><li>Ability to develop and maintain professional, positive relationships with students, staff, administrators, families, and the community. </li><li>Willingness to participate in school and building events and activities. </li><li>Ability to maintain confidentiality and tact in all aspects of employment. </li><li>Ability to incorporate lightheartedness and humor into the workplace. </li><li>Ability to grow in interpersonal and technical skills with the held belief of being a lifelong learner. </li><li>Ability to make independent decisions as well as work collaboratively with other staff, administrators, families, and community members. </li><li>Ability to serve as a think-partner and use critical thinking skills to perform tasks and make decisions. </li><li>Ability to apply policies, procedures, statutes, and regulations accurately. </li><li>Ability to effectively and efficiently perform work in a fast-paced environment with competing demands through organization, attention to detail, and prioritization. </li><li>Ability to admit faults, learn from mistakes, and take calculated risks. </li><li>Ability to work flexible hours and remain flexible to changes in assignments or situations. </li><li>Necessary skills (both technical and interpersonal) to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. </li></ul> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>Administers tests, homework, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of assisting teachers and students. </li><li>Assists and supports the teacher with instructional activities which may include reading, writing, math, study skills, social skills, behavior and/or personal living skills. </li><li>Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. </li><li>Assists staff with discipline for the purpose of supporting a safe learning and working environment and building policies. </li><li>Guides independent study (e.g.: enrichment work, remedial work, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring student success. </li><li>Implements, under the supervision of the teacher, instructional programs, and lesson plans for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving students' academic success through a defined course of study. </li><li>Monitors individual students, classroom, lab, library, playground activities, etc. (e.g.: workstations, breakfast duty, lunch duty, bus duty, field trips and other campus activities) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment. </li><li>Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g.: scheduling, copying, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or administrator in providing necessary records/materials. </li><li>Depending on assignment, assists with development and implementation of students' Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and developing students' skills in daily living, physical, social, communication and behavior. </li><li>Participates in meetings and training. </li><li>Depending on the assignment administers first aid, medical assistance, physical support and personal care for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or disabled children. </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions</p> <p>The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 30% sitting, 20% walking, and 50% standing. Depending on the specific assignment, the job is performed under minimal temperature variations.</p>
