REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation PAY GRADE: Choose pay category. 7 /235 Days LOCATION: Transportation DATE REVISED: 10/28/2016</p> <p>PRIMARY PURPOSE:</p> <p>Manages the development of regular and special needs routes to provide safe, efficient, and economical transportation for the students of the district. Develops routes to optimize the efficiency of critical school bus resources. Assist in developing and adjusting district routes that support growth and/or change of students home and school demographics.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Education/Certification:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or equivalent </li><li>Clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsement </li></ul> <p>Special Knowledge/Skills:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to coordinate district function </li><li>Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data </li><li>Ability to give and receive verbal and written instructions </li><li>Proficient map reading skills </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with </li><li>employees and various district personnel </li><li>Ability to supervise and direct all subordinate employees </li><li>Ability to use personal computer and software </li></ul> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Three years prior working history with interpersonal skills preferred </li></ul> <p>MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:</p> <ul> <li>Supportive of instructional goals and objectives of the district. </li><li>Using computerized Geographic Information System (GIS) based routing software, develops school bus routes within the framework of the Board of Education and Texas Education Agency policies and procedures. </li><li>Receives written, telephonic, and electronic requests from parents, school staff, and transportation staff related to establishment or changes in bus routes and stops. </li><li>Prepares hard-copy routes for school bus to the driver; issues updated routes whenever changes are made in bus stop times or locations. </li><li>Prepares forms monthly for student load counts, receives compiled data from drivers and prepares a summary of results to be used in route planning. </li><li>Assigns buses to routes consistent with district policies to ensure correction of bus overloading and length of ride times. </li><li>Prepares annual Bus Route Locator data to be placed on the internet for use by parents in determining bus schedules for their students. </li><li>Coordinate with Director, Assistant Director of Transportation and Shop Manager to facilitate extracurricular trips and buses. </li><li>Respond to after-hours calls as needed. </li><li>Notify bus drivers, schools, and public of any changes in bus routes and scheduling. </li><li>Work with designated school administrators concerning placement of students on after school/practice buses. </li><li>Communicate with drivers about their concerns or problems they have with parents, students, teachers, or coworkers. </li><li>Evaluate employee job performance as needed to ensure effectiveness. </li><li>Help organize and conduct training programs to promote a safe work environment. </li><li>Develop training methods and improvement plans to ensure exemplary operation of the transportation department. </li><li>Assign drivers to extracurricular and after school/practice runs. Assign substitutes as needed. </li><li>Prepare and update after school/practice bus routes and schedules for all schools. </li><li>Implement Federal and State law, Texas Education Rules, and Board Policies in transportation area. </li><li>Enforce safety standards that conform to state, federal, and insurance regulations. </li><li>Communicate with students, parents, staff, and community about their complaints with drivers, buses, routes, and safety. </li><li>Perform disaster duty as needed (Hurricanes, Floods, Blizzards, etc.). </li><li>Maintain good rapport with parents and community. </li><li>Comply with applicable personnel policies. </li><li>Attend professional growth activities to keep abreast of innovative techniques in transportation. </li><li>Develop and implements a system for receiving contacts from parents and others that will ensure response within 24 hours, and daily follow-up until the contact is closed. </li><li>Performs related duties as assigned. </li><li>Maintains regular attendance </li></ul> <p>Supervisory Responsibilities:</p> <p>Supervise and evaluate job performance of drivers</p> <p>Equipment Used:</p> <p>Video monitoring equipment, personal computer, printer, calculator, plotter,</p> <p>Copier, fax machine, school bus, other district vehicles</p> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS:</p> <p>Mental Demands</p> <ul> <li>Work irregular and frequent prolonged hours </li><li>Frequent District wide travel </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands</p> <ul> <li>Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting (over 45 pounds), heavy carrying (over 45 pounds), stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching </li></ul> <p>The above statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to the job and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills that may be required.</p> <p>Approved by Immediate Supervisor: Date: Reviewed by HR Director: Date: Received by Employee: Date:</p> <p>The Beaumont Independent School District does not discriminate on the basis of age, color, disability, national origin, race, religion, or sex in the educational programs or activities that it operates and is an equal opportunity employer.</p>
