<p>Overview</p> <p>We are seeking a motivated engineering student to join our design team as a Co-op in Piping & Instrumentation (P&ID) Drafting. The role provides hands-on experience with the creation, revision, and management of P&IDs and wiring diagrams using industry-standard CAD tools. The successful candidate will learn to interpret existing piping networks, produce "as-built" documentation, and support engineering change processes.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Learn & Apply P&ID Fundamentals</p> </li><li> <p>Study basic symbols, line types, and conventions used in piping and instrumentation diagrams.</p> </li><li> <p>Attend short training sessions and review company standards.</p> </li><li> <p>Asset Identification & As-Built Transcription</p> </li><li> <p>Walk-through plant sites to locate valves, pumps, instruments, and other assets.</p> </li><li> <p>Accurately capture field data and translate it into "as-built" P&IDs.</p> </li><li> <p>CAD Drafting & Document Packages</p> </li><li> <p>Use SolidWorks (or equivalent CAD software) to develop professional-grade P&ID sets.</p> </li><li> <p>Organize drawing files, title blocks, and revision logs into complete document packages ready for review.</p> </li><li> <p>Engineering Redline Management</p> </li><li> <p>Receive redline markings from senior engineers.</p> </li><li> <p>Implement changes in the CAD files, ensuring all modifications are reflected consistently across related drawings.</p> </li><li> <p>Wiring Diagram Production</p> </li><li> <p>Generate electrical wiring diagrams that depict current equipment and proposed new installations.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate with the electrical engineering team to confirm equipment ratings, conduit routing, and control logic.</p> </li><li> <p>Quality & Compliance</p> </li><li> <p>Perform self-checks for symbol accuracy, line continuity, and compliance with internal drafting standards and relevant codes (e.g., ASME, IEC).</p> </li><li> <p>Assist in cross-disciplinary reviews and incorporate feedback promptly</p> </li><li> <p>Documentation & Reporting</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain a log of work performed, hours spent on each drawing, and any issues encountered.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepare brief status updates for the supervising engineer.</p> </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Education</p> <p>Currently enrolled in an accredited CAD or Engineering program</p> <p>Academic Standing</p> <p>Minimum 3.0 GPA (or equivalent)</p> <p>CAD Experience</p> <p>Introductory exposure to AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar; willingness to learn Plant-specific tools</p> <p>Technical Aptitude</p> <p>Basic understanding of fluid flow, instrumentation, and electrical concepts (coursework acceptable).</p> <p>Communication</p> <p>Clear written and verbal skills for documenting findings and interacting with engineers.</p> <p>Safety Awareness</p> <p>Ability to follow site safety protocols</p> <ul> <li>Preferred but not required:* prior exposure to P&ID symbols, experience with Microsoft Office/SharePoint, or participation in a related student project. </li></ul> <p>Desired Skills & Attributes</p> <ul> <li>Strong analytical mindset - can interpret field data and translate it into schematic form. </li><li>Attention to detail - accurate symbol placement and revision tracking are critical. </li><li>Proactive learner - self-directed study of standards and willingness to ask questions. </li><li>Team player - comfortable collaborating with engineers, drafters, and construction personnel. </li><li>Time-management - ability to juggle coursework with co-op responsibilities and meet deadlines. </li></ul> <p>What You'll Gain</p> <ul> <li>Practical Experience with industry-grade CAD tools and real-world engineering documentation. </li><li>Understanding of how piping, instrumentation, and electrical systems are coordinated in complex projects. </li></ul>
