<p>About the Job</p> <p>We are looking for a quantitative wildlife ecologist to join our team to study how coyote</p> <p>and fox interactions change across an urbanization gradient. We are excited about</p> <p>recruiting an individual with specific skills in the capture of urban canids using leg-hold</p> <p>and cable restraint traps, statistical analysis of animal behavior, and GIS/geospatial</p> <p>analysis.</p> <p>The task of the new team member will be to capture and radio collar foxes and</p> <p>coyotes in and around the Twin Cities Metro Area and then model their space use and</p> <p>behavioral patterns.</p> <p>The post-doctoral researcher will also be responsible for coordinating a team to deploy and monitor behavioral playback cameras, developing a</p> <p>data analysis pipeline for the resulting videos, and writing manuscripts. Additionally, this postdoc will work closely with a collaborative team of disease ecologists, movement</p> <p>ecologists, and veterinarians. If the applicant has not completed their degree, they will be hired as a predoctoral associate (9545) until their PhD is conferred.</p> <p>Percentage breakdown of duties:</p> <p>20% Captures and collars coyotes and foxes in urban and rural settings.</p> <p>15% Coordinates behavioral playback data collection</p> <p>20% Develops analytical pipeline to model how the space use and behavior of each</p> <p>species changes across the urbanization gradient.</p> <p>35% Writes and submits manuscripts</p> <p>10% Other duties including preparing and delivering presentations; conducting outreach</p> <p>with the public; and working closely with land managers</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications :</p> <p>Competitive candidates should be highly motivated and possess a PhD in</p> <p>quantitative/spatial ecology of wildlife or a related discipline with a strong quantitative</p> <p>emphasis (ABD candidates will be considered). Specific experience trapping urban</p> <p>canids using cable restraints and leg-hold traps, deploying behavioral playback</p> <p>equipment, and analyzing wildlife relocation data using advanced spatial statistics in R</p> <p>and QGIS is required.
