<p>University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Iowa Institute of Human Genetics is looking for a Assistant Research Scientist to conduct highly technical and specialized computational biology research by independently analyzing data; performing research experiments and analysis, simulations and theoretical investigations; and disseminating research findings. This job family requires the academic knowledge of a discipline that is associated with a doctoral degree or equivalent professional degree. Incumbents must also demonstrate outstanding achievement in a field of research.</p> <p>Percent Time: 100%</p> <p>Duties to include:</p> <p>Experiments, Simulations, Modeling or Theoretical Investigations:</p> <p>Lead analysis of common types of genomics projects, including RNA-seq, ATAC/ChIP-Seq, WGS/WES, ect.</p> <p>Setup, troubleshoot, and validate nextflow and nf-core open-source analytical pipelines for established and emerging sequencing technologies.</p> <p>Perform experiments, simulations, or theoretical investigations.</p> <p>Collect data and evaluate relevance of data.</p> <p>Work independently on basic research tasks with oversight by Faculty or Principal Investigator (PI).</p> <p>Contribute to documentation of equipment and procedures.</p> <p>Data/Research Analysis and Evaluation:</p> <p>Analyze data for relevance and data integrity.</p> <p>Perform basic data analysis techniques.</p> <p>Compare results of scientific investigations to previously published work.</p> <p>Perform quality control analysis of next-generation sequencing datasets.</p> <p>Perform statistical analysis and interpretation of complex genomic data using R/Bioconductor and/or Python.</p> <p>Apply machine learning and advanced statistical methods to extract biological insights from large-scale data.</p> <p>Evaluate and troubleshoot analytical workflows to ensure reproducible and accurate results.</p> <p>Provide expert consultation on experimental design and power analysis for sequencing studies.</p> <p>Dissemination of Research Results:</p> <p>Prepare manuscripts for contributing author for publication.</p> <p>Present results in departmental seminars and at professional meetings.</p> <p>Prepare comprehensive analysis reports and generate publication-ready data visualizations and figures for client investigators.</p> <p>Contribute as a co-author to peer-reviewed publications resulting from collaborative projects.</p> <p>Develop and maintain documentation for analytical workflows and standard operating procedures.</p> <p>Research Proposals/Grants:</p> <p>Contribute to new or continuing research grant proposals for research activities.</p> <p>May serve as co-PI on grants or proposals.</p> <p>Contribute to progress reports required by funding agencies.</p> <p>Supervise adherence to safety and compliance guidelines when necessary.</p> <p>Contribute bioinformatics expertise to competitive grant applications across multiple research areas.</p> <p>Develop computational approaches, statistical frameworks, and analysis plans for proposed research projects.</p> <p>Service:</p> <p>Provide service to the scientific community, University and General Public.</p> <p>Review submitted manuscripts and research proposals.</p> <p>Consult and collaborate with the research community.</p> <p>May participate in national and international meetings within the discipline.</p> <p>Provide expert consultation to University researchers on study design and analytical approaches in collaboration with the Director of Bioinformatics.</p> <p>Contribute to professional development through attendance at scientific conferences and workshops.</p> <p>Engage in outreach activities to promote bioinformatics education and scientific literacy including designing and teaching webinars and workshops.</p> <p>Human Resources/Supervision:</p> <p>Mentor graduate students.</p> <p>May provide functional and/or administrative supervision for staff.</p> <p>Provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching and counseling to assure outcomes are achieved.</p> <p>Supervise project timelines and deliverables for multiple concurrent client projects.</p> <p>Coordinate with core facility staff to optimize workflow efficiency and resource allocation.</p> <p>Education Required:</p> <p>A Doctoral degree in Computational Biology, Biophysics, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, or related field is required.</p> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <p>1 year of related experience is required.</p> <p>Demonstrated expertise in next-generation sequencing data analysis with strong publication record is required.</p> <p>Proficiency in R/Bioconductor and/or Python for genomic data analysis and statistical computing is required.</p> <p>Ability to leverage AI tools appropriately for coding and other tasks is required.</p> <p>Proficiency with Linux/Unix command line environments is required.</p> <p>Excellent project management skills with ability to handle concurrent projects is required.</p> <p>Outstanding written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with research teams is required.</p> <p>Desired Qualifications:</p> <p>Knowledge of genomic databases for sequence analysis and annotation is desired.</p> <p>Strong statistical background with experience in experimental design and hypothesis testing is desired.</p> <p>Position and Application details:</p> <p>In order to be
