If you are viewing this posting through any other website (Indeed, ZipRecruiter, etc.), please visit our website to submit your application.</p> <p>Instrument and Control Technician</p> <p>Pay Range: $40.02 - $56.32</p> <p>NATURE OF WORK</p> <p>This is advanced skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical/electronic, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), continuous emission monitoring systems, instrumentation, and related electrical and electronic systems.</p> <p>Work involves the performance of pneumatic, electrical and electronics work in making installations, maintaining, and repairs in connection with electrical systems, monitoring and control devices. The incumbent may generate and analyze data to be sent to state and federal environmental agencies. Assignments received orally or in writing from a superior and accompanied by sketches or blueprints. Work is performed with considerable independence and complex assignments may involve supervision of employees. More complex work is subject to inspection in process and upon completion for quality and conformance to trade standards. Supervision is received from an administrative superior. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate employees.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <p>The following examples of work are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:</p> <ul> <li>Installs, maintains/troubleshoots, and repairs control, monitoring, and data acquisition instruments/systems for the boilers generator equipment, PID control loops, current to pressure transducers I-P and pressure to current transducers P-I, oxygen monitoring and correction, records, charts, programmable logic controllers, circuit breakers, and pneumatic and hydraulic control systems. </li><li>Installs, troubleshoots and maintains electric, water, and gas SCADA systems, variable frequency drives, 120-, 240-, 480-, & 5,000-volt motors and their control circuits. </li><li>Tests and calibrates protective relays, microprocessors, and programmable logic controller installations, programs various types of controllers, monitors, and data acquisition systems. </li><li>Maintain the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems (SCADA) and associated equipment and make changes to its logic and graphics for use in operations and troubleshooting. </li><li>Answer questions applying knowledge of monitoring and repair procedures, lay out projects, and develop standard procedures and methods for completing work assignments. </li><li>Makes changes to the Supervisory Control Data Acquisition System (SCADA); reads and interprets plans and drawings and prepares schematics; troubleshoots systems working under hazardous conditions; determines setup and layout of work, prepares rough drawings of changes in control schematics. </li><li>Installs, maintains, and repairs, metering, and control equipment for various departments. </li><li>Reads and interprets electrical/electronic control schematics and instruction manuals. </li><li>Read and understands process and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID). </li><li>Maintains and performs/supervises quality assurance/control activities on the continuous emissions monitoring system (CEMS), and the continuous opacity monitoring system (COMS) analyzers. </li><li>Collects the data from the CEMS and checks it for accuracy, edits data, calibrates analyzers, performs linearity audit, and prepares electronic data report (EDR), and related reports for submission to environmental agencies; drafts procedures & instructions for operation of the CEM system. </li><li>Implements and follows the Lockout/Tagout safety program, assists in the development of procedures for specific equipment and works on related plant safety issues. </li><li>Performs other work which is consistent with the essential functions of the job and other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS</p> <ul> <li>Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment of the electrical trade; of power plant operations and instrumentation and electrical substation work. </li><li>Considerable knowledge of electrical and electronic systems, equipment, and control devices. </li><li>Knowledge of motor control systems; of principles and practices in electronic process control fundamentals. </li><li>Ability to troubleshoot and repair low and high voltage electrical circuits and power wiring. </li><li>Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic control systems. </li><li>Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. </li><li>Knowledge of computer programming and PLC ladder logic. </li><li>Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and diagrams, and to apply industry standards and safety practices. </li><li>Ability to locate and troubleshoot defects in electrical and electronic systems, equipment, instrumentation, and control devices, and to perform various adjustments and repairs. </li><li>Ability to prepare required reports, diagrams, and documentation. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. </li><li>Ability to supervise and lead others in the performance of tasks. </li><li>Ability to safely operate Power Industrial Vehicles (PIV) including but not limited to forklift, pallet jack, scissor lift, skid steer, crane and aerial lift devices. </li><li>Ability to learn and utilize various computer software programs necessary to perform the job. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees. </li><li>Employees must be willing to be trained on and retain the knowledge to safely work in a complex electric generating plant. </li><li>Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. </li><li>Ability to perform maintenance on mechanical equipment when not performing IC duties. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Graduation from high school or equivalent; supplemented by vocational or technical courses in electricity or electronics and digital computers and software; experience in electrical/electronics, with experience in computer programming; or an equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills.</p> <p>NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <ul> <li>Employee must possess and maintain a valid Nebraska Driver's License when operating a vehicle. </li><li>Possession and maintenance of the Journeyman Electrician License (JA) as outlined under Nebraska State Electrical Act is preferred. </li><li>Employee must meet current residency requirements. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT</p> <ul> <li>Work is performed in an outdoor/indoor environment under varying weather conditions with temperatures ranging from below zero to above 100 degrees. </li><li>Some occasional exposure to fumes, high noise levels, chemicals, working at heights and in confined spaces, fall hazards, hazardous materials, hazardous electrical shock and burns, dust, and paint. </li><li>Interaction with co-workers is an everyday occurrence and requires the ability to direct, negotiate, and mediate. </li><li>Hours of work may vary and involve late hours, weekends and rotating shifts, and the employee must be able to responds to after-hour calls. </li><li>Work may involve lifting, climbing, and carrying of equipment and materials up to 40-60 lbs. </li><li>Work will require the use of Personal Protective Equipment. </li><li>Other hazards that may be encountered are high traffic areas where trucks, loaders, and rail cars are moving and being loaded or unloaded. </li></ul>
