<p>Essential Duties</p> <ol> <li>Carries out research within the scope of the established study protocol. Adheres to all human subjects regulations as defined by Yale University and the federal government that pertain to research studies. 2. Develops criteria for admission of study subjects based on goals and objectives of project. 3. Determines potential sources of funding and prospective partnerships. 4. Evaluates feasibility of accepting potential projects through analysis of staffing needs, resource requirements, financial costs, and current planned capacity of group. Negotiates contracts and/or changes with funder. 5. Develops original HIC/IRB submissions. Based on knowledge of science and research goals, collaborates with PIs on major revisions and contributes to scientific protocols. Plans and implements changes. 6. Develops forms, questionnaires and the application of research techniques; writes procedures manuals for data collection and coding. 7. Responsible for the documentation and transmission of study data. Ensures that report forms are accurately documented and completed in a timely manner at each site location. 8. Works independently to develop manage and organize multi site studies. Serves as primary coordinator between University, non-Yale collaborators, pharmaceutical companies, HIC, IRB and funding sources. 9. Performs descriptive and multivariate statistical analyses of data, using computer software. 10. Designs and implements quality control measures to ensure accurate collection and processing of data. 11. For additional information on the background check requirements and process visit "Learn about background checks" under the Applicant Support Resources section of Careers on the It's Your Yale website.</p> <p>Position Focus:</p> <p>Yale School of Public Health is seeking a Research Associate to conduct tobacco simulation modeling analyses of key populations that are disproportionately harmed by tobacco use as part of the Tobacco Economics and Modeling of Policy Outcomes (TEMPO) Lab, co-led by Dr. Jamie Tam and Dr. Abigail Friedman. The individual will work with the Center for the Assessment of Tobacco Regulations (CAsToR), a multi-site research consortium funded by the NIH/FDA as well as the Cancer Intervention and Surveillance Modeling Network (CISNET) funded by NCI. This 1-year fixed duration position will be in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Yale School of Public Health in New Haven, CT. Hybrid work option is available.</p> <p>The candidate will be expected to conduct analyses estimating and modeling historical and future patterns of tobacco use as they vary by sociodemographics, other substance use (e.g. cannabis, alcohol), and mental health status. They will use available public-use national survey data sources to estimate transition behaviors across different tobacco, substance use, and mental health states. They will also analyze specific policies' effects on trends in tobacco and substance use over time. The successful candidate will be highly proficient in R, have strong organization and communication skills, and be able to collaborate effectively in a cross-disciplinary research team.</p> <p>Responsibilities include:</p> <ul> <li>Develop, calibrate, and validate computational models of cigarette, cigar, and e-cigarette use across diverse sociodemographic subpopulations, including individuals who co-use other substances or have mental health comorbidities. </li><li>Perform descriptive and multivariate statistical analyses of data, using computer software. </li><li>Perform data management, data cleaning, quality control, and epidemiological analysis of large population studies (including basic descriptive statistics, stratified analyses, and tabular/visual summarization of results). </li><li>Perform analyses to generate age, period, and cohort-based data on tobacco use patterns in the US across different subpopulations. </li><li>Draft and co-author research papers and manuscripts for publication and collaborate in the development of posters and data presentations for conferences and workshops. </li><li>Assist with project administrative tasks such as meeting scheduling and note-taking. </li><li>Review peer-reviewed literature relevant to research questions. </li><li>Present at regular team meetings to discuss team and project-related activities, issues, communications, and updates. </li><li>Interact with a multidisciplinary team of internal and external peers to communicate progress and outcomes of planned work regularly, effectively, and openly. </li><li>Contributes in-depth, original thought to written reports and to the writing of abstracts and manuscripts. </li><li>Responsible for the documentation and transmission of study data. </li><li>Assist with drafting and preparation of grant applications related to this work. </li></ul> <p>Candidates are required to share a sample of original R code, preferably modeling code.</p> <p>Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:</p> <p>Proven experience in the fields of simulation modeling, tobacco control, and epidemiology. Track record of presenting and publishing research.
