For more information, go to https://studentaid.gov/pslf/</p> <p>The eligible list created from this announcement may be used to fill current and future vacancies for a period of up to 6 months.</p> <p>#LI-POST</p> <p>About the Work Unit</p> <p>This position is in CDOT's Region 4 North Engineering Program in the Greeley Engineering Residency. This residency is responsible administer transportation construction and design contracts within a specific geographical area and to oversee the contractors and consultants performing the work. Design activities include the development of construction plans, specifications, and preliminary estimates for the advertisement of the budgeted transportation projects, along with the unit's specified corridors. Design activities are either performed with the in-house design team or are administered through design consultant contracts. The designs used must meet the guidelines, standards, and policies of the State of Colorado and the Federal Highway Administration and stay within the project scope and budget. During design, this unit initiates and scopes projects, creates plans and specifications, estimates costs, and prepares projects for bid. Construction activities include testing of materials. During construction, monitors the work done by contractors to assure conformance with the plans and specifications. This unit directs and monitors the work of consultants performing design and construction engineering functions. Throughout the project, this unit maintains records of the work, monitors budgets and schedules, monitors quality, and processes payments to consultants and contractors, as well as providing preliminary survey data. Projects are assigned and applied through a combination of formal instructions and on-the-job training.</p> <p>About the Position</p> <p>As the Engineer-in-Training I (EIT I), you will work under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer to learn how to complete and oversee the design and construction of transportation projects. </p> <p> </p> <p>Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:</p> <ul> <li>Learn to assist with management of projects through design by interpreting and applying CDOT design standards. </li><li>Learn to assist design with initiating and scoping projects, creating plans and specifications, estimates costs, and preparing projects for bid. </li><li>Learns to direct and monitor the work of consultants performing design and construction engineering functions. </li><li>Throughout the project, learn to maintain records of the work, monitor budgets and schedules, monitor quality, and process payments to consultants and contractors. </li><li>Learns to apply the plans, specifications, M & S Standards, and project notes in the inspection of the work progress by contractors to assure conformance specifications by assisting in supervising, performing detailed inspections, and maintaining proper documentation, including inspecting the contractor's materials and work. </li><li>Learns design methods, regulations and laws and competency in computer related functions (i.e. understanding the use of the system network, data transfer and plotting devices). </li><li>Learns to prepare a complete and accurate account of pay quantities, project activities, correspondence, conditions, and problem resolutions by completing various written and computer-generated reports. </li><li>Learns to compile and tabulate delivery tickets, as well as verify yield requirements. Obtains dimensions of placed, constructed, and/or installed items and calculates required areas, volumes, etc. </li><li>Learns to evaluate contractor materials to determine the acceptability to be incorporated or used in the constructed project. </li><li>Learn to be a primary CDOT contact regarding project issues and questions. </li><li>On active construction projects, learns to act as project tester of materials incorporated into the project. Materials include soils, HMA, Concrete and other associated items. </li><li>Certifications to be obtained include CAPA, ACI, WAQTC, Radiological Nuclear Safety, ATSER and PMWeb. </li><li>Enter all test related material into ATSER. </li><li>Assure that all requirements of CDOT Field Material Manual are met. </li><li>Trains to utilize computers and design software packages (such as Trns-Port, MicroStation, PMWeb, Word and Excel), and set up project information, background and funding in Trns-Port system, document pay items according to the percentage completed by prime and sub-contractors. </li><li>Enter pay quantities in Daily Work Reports in PMWeb. </li><li>Assist project managers as they direct the work of consultants providing design and construction engineering services; </li><li>Develop Task Orders and monitor work as it progresses to ensure compliance with Department procedures, design standards, and work processes. </li><li>Perform periodic reviews and track progress and schedules. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment:</p> <ul> <li>Primarily 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM work hours, Monday-Friday (Flex schedule after training) </li><li>Weekend, holiday, or night work may be required depending on project </li><li>Approximately 50% spent in the field, 50% spent in the office </li><li>Travel required during work hours </li><li>Required to operate CDOT vehicles </li><li>Position works outside in variety of weather conditions and near high speed traffic </li><li>May be required to cover snow shift duty for road closures </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications </p> <ul> <li>A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or engineering technology. </li></ul> <p>Substitutions: </p> <ul> <li>Current enrollment as an Engineer Intern by the Colorado Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors. </li><li>OR Current, valid licensure as a Professional Engineer from the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers, and Professional Land Surveyors. </li></ul> <p>Please Note: The required experience must be substantiated within the work experience section of your application.
