<p>Job Title: Mechanical Engineer</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>We are seeking a dedicated Marine/Mechanical Engineer to support a critical program for NOAA and its Fleet Efforts. This role involves assisting engineers and program managers in calculations, designs, and studies related to piping, pump, fire, and water systems.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Perform preliminary ship design studies </li><li>Conduct piping calculations for pump, fire, water, and sewage systems </li><li>Develop requirements and perform cost estimating </li><li>Carry out engineering calculations, analysis, and validations </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills</p> <ul> <li>Solidworks, Pipe Flow, and Systems Testing experience </li><li>Proficiency in Rhino software </li><li>6 years of experience in the shipbuilding industry and mechanical discipline </li><li>Bachelor's Degree in a related field </li><li>Ability to perform system design calculations and verifications </li><li>Experience in supporting ship concept design development and performing feasibility studies </li><li>Capability to review and modify drawings </li></ul> <p>Additional Skills & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>PE in Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering </li><li>Experience with shipboard operations on research ships </li><li>Ability to perform and evaluate piping system design and installation </li><li>Experience with Cost Estimating </li><li>Familiarity with ShipConstructor </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>The position offers a hybrid work environment with 2-3 days on-site and occasional travel. The office is located in Silver Spring, conveniently near a Metro stop.
