<p>The Iowa Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking to fill a position within the Program Services Bureau's Audit/ Certification/ Training (ACT) Team.</p> <p>Organization Background:</p> <p>The mission of DPS is to serve the people of Iowa by providing public safety services with leadership, integrity and professionalism through the core values of courtesy, service and protection. The Department is a statewide law enforcement agency and includes the Administrative Services Division, the Iowa State Patrol, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Iowa State Fire Marshal and the Division of Intelligence. The Department works in conjunction with federal, state and local jurisdictions of the criminal justice community to provide for the safety of persons living in, or traveling through the State of Iowa.</p> <p>The Program Services Bureau is responsible for maintaining and providing services in four program areas within the department: Weapon permitting, Private security/investigation licensing, Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) and Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) Audit/Certification/Training (ACT) Team.</p> <p>This position serves primarily in the bureau's Uniform Crime Reporting program. The UCR Program serves as the State's centralized crime data repository for data submitted by local law enforcement agencies across the state for inclusion in the FBI's annual crime data publication. In addition, the position provides other important support services to the other 3 bureau programs.</p> <p>Uniform Crime Reporting Program Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Monitors data submissions to identify cessation, disruption, or irregularities in crime data submission, and informs the UCR program manager of all identified cessation, disruption, or irregularity in crime data submissions. </li><li>Analyzes data entered into the DPS ICRIME System by local law enforcement agencies to ensure accuracy and that proper data elements are present under the guidance of the State's Uniform Crime Reporting program. </li><li>Provides training and instruction to law enforcement agencies in the proper entry of crime data elements related to FBI UCR and NIBRS (National Incident Based Reporting System) standards. </li><li>Provides UCR training to law enforcement academies to ensure proper identification of key data elements. </li><li>Reports DPS specific crime data monthly through ICRIME. </li><li>Maintains accurate records in the Master Charge Code Table. </li><li>Reviews Iowa Code to ensure proper crime data elements are applied. Collaborates with vendors to ensure accurate tech specs are implemented into Record Management Systems. </li><li>Assists the UCR program manager upon request with preparing publications, performing administrative duties, and coordinating relevant training sessions, meetings, and conferences. </li><li>Develops, maintains, and disseminates technical system resource materials to law enforcement agencies, system vendors, and other stakeholders. </li><li>Reviews state's homicide incidents to determine submission status and conducts regularly scheduled audits of law enforcement agency data submissions. </li></ul> <p>Audit, Certification, and Training (A.C.T.) Team:</p> <ul> <li>Provides support to bureau's ACT Team by maintaining correct protection order entries in the IOWA System and assisting in collecting delinquent payments for Iowa System usage. Reviews and researches criminal background records for vendors, contractors, and DOM-DoIT employees who will be accessing DPS systems. </li><li>Works collaboratively with the Bureau Chief or CJIS Compliance Officer to determine eligibility for access based on DPS policy and FBI CJIS Security Policy. </li></ul> <p>Private Investigation/Private Security/Bail Enforcement Program and Weapon Permit Program:</p> <ul> <li> Provides administrative support as needed by processing applications, reviewing criminal history background results, updating record management systems, and screening fingerprint card submissions. </li></ul> <p>The Department of Public Safety, as a State of Iowa Executive Branch agency, offers exciting benefits:</p> <ul> <li>Health/Dental and Life Insurance </li><li>Paid time off - Nine paid holidays plus generous paid vacation and paid sick leave which begin to accrue on your first day of employment </li><li>Iowa Public Employees Retirement System (IPERS) defined benefit program </li><li>Employee discounts from a variety of vendors </li><li>Collaborative, creative, positive work environment </li><li>Paid opportunities for professional growth and development - including training, courses, and conferences </li></ul> <p>Additional Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Applicants must be able to pass through a background investigation conducted by the Iowa Department of Public Safety. </li><li>Applicant must receive NCIC certification within 6 months of hire. </li></ul> <p>Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:</p> <ul> <li>Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in any field, and experience equal to one year of full-time administrative support (e.g., screening visitors and callers; opening/distributing mail, typing/proofing documents, letters, and reports; organizing files; scheduling meetings/appointments; arranging travel; processing travel claims; ordering supplies/equipment) or technical support work (e.g., determining budget, personnel, and equipment needs; compiling/evaluating statistical, historical, economic, business, financial or technical program data; interpreting or securing compliance with laws, rules and regulations; reviewing operating records/reports and evaluating their effectiveness). </li><li>A total of five years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one) where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience. </li><li>Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to 12 months of full-time work as an Administrative Assistant 1. </li></ul> <p>For additional information, please click on this link to view the job description.</p>
