Must be available to work additional hours as needed.</p> <p>Who May Apply?</p> <p>All persons legally authorized to work in the United States</p> <p>Overview</p> <p>Perform the essential duties of a Cook at the Central Kitchen. Cook and pack lunches for approximately 900 senior participants a day for Senior Centers, Nutrition sites and the Home Delivered Meal Program meal participants. Perform clean up and sanitation duties on kitchen equipment and facility in accordance to the local Health Department and HACCP Rules and Regulations. Assist with inventory and ordering of food items.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Under the supervision of the Kitchen Supervisor, the cook is responsible for understanding written and verbal instructions for food preparation in English </li><li>Must be able to convert recipes to correct quantities ofr daily meal counts </li><li>Must be able to perform basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and read at a High school level </li><li>Must have the ability to slice a variety of foods by hand with a chef's knife to include fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, poultry, and cake </li><li>Clean and peel items to be prepared in a sink </li><li>Must be able to use an electric and manual can opener to open #10 cans </li><li>Must be able to safely operate an electric slicer, food chopper, food processor and a 60-quart electric mixer to process foods </li><li>Cook in gas and electric ovens </li><li>Cook food in large roasting pans on top of the range </li><li>Must mix, measure and combine a variety of ingredients </li><li>Adjust cooking temperature and speed using gas knobs </li><li>Required to load and unload pans onto carts and into warmers </li><li>Must stand or walk up to 8 hours per day </li><li>Must be able to load/unload trays and pans of food up to 50 pounds from the hot ovens </li><li>Responsible for packaging individually wrapped items for the Home Delivered Meal Program such as bread, salads and desserts </li><li>Must clean and sanitize using approved sanitizing solution such as bleach water, on all surface areas of the kitchen to include workstations, table tops, walls, floors, inside and outside of equipment </li><li>Must be able to wash pot and utensils using the three-sink method </li><li>Responsible for taking trash to outside dumpster on utility carts </li><li>Must work with Kitchen crew and display teamwork approach in order to achieve department standards of 90 or above on City County Food Service Establishment Inspection Reports </li><li>Must be able to record items taken out of inventory on a daily basis and assist with weekly counts of items in stock </li><li>Must be able to monitor taste, texture, color, and smell of food during preparation and packing process </li><li>May be asked to perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Certifications, Licenses, Other Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Requires Food Managers Certification at time of hire </li><li>Requires First Aid and CPR at time of hire </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Requires High School Diploma/GED </li><li>Minimum of 2 years of experience </li><li>A valid driver's license is required. Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire </li></ul> <p>Other Information:</p> <p>Basis of Rating</p> <p>Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.</p> <p>Closing Statement</p> <p>Selected applicants must be able to pass a background investigation and a pre-employment drug test.</p> <p>Any position that lists a minimum qualification for education level and/or license/certification will require the applicant to provide proof of documentation if selected for hire into the position with the City of Corpus Christi.</p> <p>In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.</p> <p>This position is classified as "Safety Sensitive".
