<p>Job Description:</p> <p>POSITION: Special Education/Structured Literacy Teacher (Grades 7-8)</p> <p>START DATE: August 2026</p> <p>POSITION DESCRIPTION:</p> <p>Shared Services is seeking a certified special education/structured literacy teacher to work at Northwestern Regional Middle School in the Special Education Department who is committed to classroom leadership, social-emotional learning and instructional excellence, particularly in the area of Structured Literacy.</p> <ul> <li>Required: CT Special Education Certification (065, 165, or 265) </li><li>Preferred: CT Special Education Certification (065, 165, or 265) with dual certification in reading (102) </li><li>Required: Knowledge of best practices and application in literacy/reading for students with dyslexia/learning disabilities </li><li>Preferred: Knowledge of and training in Orton-Gillingham and/or Wilson Reading </li><li>Knowledge of best practices working with students with exceptionalities (including but not limited to): Emotional Disability (ED), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Executive Functioning Deficits </li><li>Recognition and practice to implement social-emotional learning strategies </li><li>Excellent teaming, collaboration and communication skills with special education staff, related service providers, regular education teachers, administrative team and parents </li><li>Experience and knowledge regarding differentiated instruction and inclusive educational practices </li><li>Experience and knowledge as an active participant in the RTI/SRBI process </li><li>Ability to provide academic support to wide range of students </li><li>Knowledge of IDEA and the PPT process </li><li>Develop and evaluate measurable IEP goals and objectives </li><li>Evaluate students as needed using standard based and curriculum based measures </li><li>Evaluate students as needed using individualized standard measures (i.e., Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement, Woodcock Johnson Test of Achievement, Wechsler Individual Achievement test, and other various reading focused measures) </li><li>Oversee instructional assistants relative to students on caseload </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain excellent relationships with students and families </li><li>Other duties as assigned by Principal and Special Education Supervisor </li></ul> <p>CLOSING DATE: Open Until Filled</p> <p>The application to include:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Letter of interest</p> </li><li> <p>Resume</p> </li><li> <p>Transcripts</p> </li><li> <p>Copy of teaching certificates</p> </li><li> <p>Three letters of recommendation</p> </li></ol> <p>COVER LETTER TO: Mr. Quentin H.
