<p>Apprentice Mechanic (Light Duty)</p> <p>Employment Type: 0 - Full-time Regular</p> <p>Pay Range: $47,936.00 - 71,904.00</p> <p>Location: Castle Rock, CO</p> <p>Overtime Exempt: N</p> <p>Elected Office / Department: FACILITIES</p> <p>This position performs entry to mid-level work such as preventive maintenance and mechanical repairs on all county vehicles and equipment.</p> <p>Generally, the hiring range is $47,936-$59,920 annually. For a more detailed overview please view the full View the full Employee Benefits Guide</p> <p>Typical work schedule: Monday - Thursday 7:00 am - 5:30 pm, additional overtime hours may be required.</p> <p>View the full job description here</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive)</p> <ul> <li>Change lubricants, filters and performs other preventive maintenance functions as necessary. Performs safety inspections on any/all County equipment. </li><li>General repairs on automotive and heavy construction equipment to include the repair of gasoline and diesel engines, repair of electrical systems including lights, repair of hydraulic systems, and repair/adjustment to drive train and brake systems. </li><li>Perform diagnostic road tests. Travel to various locations for tire maintenance, repair work, drop-off and pick-up of vehicles, parts and/or delivery of fluids and equipment. </li><li>Makes repairs to snow and ice equipment </li><li>Inspects defective and malfunctioning equipment and performs diagnostic tests using diagnostic software and other equipment as required. </li><li>Performs service calls in the field. </li><li>Performs duties and training in both the light-duty and heavy-duty shops. </li><li>On-Call during snow season to support the operations of snow removal fleet and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. </li><li>Repairs and replaces tires on all equipment. </li><li>Other duties may be assigned as needed. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or GED equivalent </li><li>One year of automotive/diesel mechanical experience preferred. </li><li>An equivalent combination of education and experience may be consider </li></ul> <p>CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License upon hire. Review of motor vehicle record is required at time of hire and periodically throughout employment. </li><li>The ability to possess a State of Colorado Class (A) Commercial Driver License with tanker endorsement after hire. Incumbents in this position must meet the Department of Transportation physical exam and drug and alcohol testing requirements. </li><li>This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check including fingerprinting through a national database. </li></ul> <p>ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:</p> <p>Closing Date: 5/29/2026 5:59PM MST. This may mean being available to perform additional duties and hours beyond what is normally required. In the event that an exempt employee does work more than 40 hours a week in support of County operations during an emergency, such employee may receive overtime or other appropriate wage compensation in accordance with existing County policies or at the discretion of the County.</p>
