<p>Responsible for training students to safely operate commercial vehicles and preparing them to obtain their CDL. This role involves both classroom instruction and hands on driving experience. This includes ensuring instruction aligns with industry standards, safety regulations, college policy and procedure, and the operational needs of the program.</p> <p>Anticipated hire date is 5/12/2025. Courses for up to 22 hours per week and may vary including a mix of days, evenings, and weekends. This position will be open until filled.</p> <ul> <li>Teach all assigned courses for the full duration of scheduled instruction. </li><li>Ensure that each class session contains essential curricular components, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and maintains relevancy and consistency with industry best practices. </li><li>Evaluate student progress and provide appropriate, timely feedback. </li><li>Incorporate appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning. </li><li>Provide and/or facilitate quality experiences in laboratory and/or clinical settings to meet program needs. </li><li>Maintain instructional areas and ensure proper operation of classroom/lab equipment, reporting any malfunctions or necessary preventative and routine maintenance promptly. </li><li>Maintain cleanliness of instructional areas and laboratories. </li><li>Adhere to and administer the safety policies and procedures of Haywood Community College. </li><li>Perform regular safety inspections for all aspects of the class are complete as required. </li><li>Maintain knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration compliance and ensure class curriculum is in alignment with requirements. </li><li>Ensure the proper operation of classroom/lab equipment, reporting any malfunctions to the appropriate person(s) </li><li>Recommend textbooks and other instructional materials, including classroom and laboratory equipment to Dean or Coordinator. </li><li>Support the efforts of the CDL program in addressing recruitment and retention of students. </li><li>Develop and distribute course syllabi according to established template providing appropriate information to students concerning course expectations and evaluation criteria. </li></ul> <p>Additional Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Remain updated on guidelines and procedures for state and national certification requirements </li><li>Create a student-centered environment for on and off campus students </li><li>Work toward operational excellence; continuous improvement of processes and seek help from advisory committees </li><li>Implement innovative strategies to meet the needs of students and improve processes </li><li>Interact with co-workers and perform tasks with the highest level of integrity </li><li>Work cooperatively with faculty, staff, students, and our learning community </li><li>Promote and support HCC's mission, vision, and values and promote and support coworkers in the most positive manner. </li></ul> <p>Minimum</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or equivalent </li><li>Have at least five years of continuous experience operating a Class A Vehicle and hold a valid Class A North Carolina License; provided on and after April 1, 1992. </li><li>Meet the North Carolina State CDL qualifications (Have not been convicted of a felony, or convicted of a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, in the ten years immediately preceding the date of application, not had a revocation or suspension of their driver's license in the two years immediately preceding the date of application, not have had convictions for moving violations totaling seven or more cumulative points within three years of the date of application). </li><li>Fluent with relevant laws, regulations and standards including those set by the FMCSA. </li><li>Must meet the definition of "Instructor" as outlined in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) Rule 380.603 </li></ul> <p>Preferred</p> <ul> <li>FT or PT teaching experience at the community college or four-year college level. On-line teaching experience a plus. </li></ul> <p>Licensing Requirement</p> <p>Maintain a valid Class A North Carolina License; Active NC Driver's License required if position requires the operation of college vehicle as part of duties. Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Background check required.</p> <p>Physical Demands</p> <p>Frequent standing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, stooping, and getting into and out of large vehicle; sitting in vehicle for extended period of time; operating training vehicles; riding as a passenger in training vehicles; demonstrating driving techniques; communicates with students, potential students, faculty, staff and general public regarding inquiries and must be able to exchange knowledgeable information in these situations; Repetitive motion from computer and clinical equipment usage</p> <p>Occasionally lift, move, transport, install or remove items weighing up to 25 pounds.</p> <p>Working Conditions</p> <p>Work is performed in a classroom, laboratory, and outdoor settings, often in varying weather conditions. Must adhere to all safety protocols and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by OSHA and the College.</p> <p>Hazard Assessment</p> <p>Minimal exposure to hazards in controlled classroom environments; field training may include exposure to inclement weather and driving hazards. Proper safety protocols and PPE are mandatory.</p> <p>This position requires a strong commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy working and learning environment. Employees are expected to follow established safety protocols adhere to organizational and regulatory standards and perform tasks with a focus on accuracy and compliance to ensure the well-being of themselves, their coworkers, their students, and the College.</p> <p>Position requires pre-employment drug screening.
