<p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The Financial Aid Specialist is part of the dynamic Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships (OSFA) team within Enrollment Affairs at Vanderbilt University. The individual in this role assists in the administration of institutional, federal, state and private financial aid funds to both undergraduate and graduate/professional students. Reporting to the Deputy Director for Operations in the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships, the Financial Aid Specialist will support OSFA by working on special and ongoing projects that support the awarding of financial assistance to students.</p> <p>About the Work Unit:</p> <p>The OSFA is responsible for providing financial assistance to students whose economic circumstances are such that they could not otherwise afford to attend. In addition, we provide limited merit-based assistance to select undergraduate students who demonstrate exceptional accomplishment and intellectual promise.</p> <p>Vanderbilt welcomes students who can benefit from and contribute to the community, regardless of their financial situation. The University is committed to reviewing applicants for admission without regard to their financial need, then assistance is awarded to any student who establishes eligibility for such need-based assistance on the basis of family financial criteria.</p> <p>Key Functions and Expected Performance:</p> <ul> <li>Achieve a broad knowledge and understanding of federal and institutional methodology as it relates to federal, state, university and other aid programs. </li><li>Assist in overall coordination of institutional scholarship and/or grant program administration/fund management. Includes reconciliation of various program funds. </li><li>Assist in working with the International Tax Office, ensuring Vanderbilt's compliance with all applicable international tax regulations. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Supervisory Relationships:</p> <p>This position does not have supervisory responsibility, this position reports administratively and functionally to the Deputy Director of the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.</p> <p>Education and Certifications</p> <ul> <li>A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education is necessary. </li></ul> <p>Experience and Skills:</p> <ul> <li>At least one year of relevant, related experience is necessary. </li><li>Knowledge of principles, practices, methodology, and procedures for the provision of student financial aid is required. </li><li>Knowledge of a broad range of relevant multi-user computer systems, applications, and/or equipment is preferred. </li><li>Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and policies pertaining to the provision of student financial aid is required. </li><li>Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community is required. </li><li>Demonstrated ability working collaboratively in a team environment is necessary. </li></ul>
