Ranked 37 among national universities, Boston College has 923 full-time and 1,336 FTE faculty, 2,822 non-faculty employees, an operating budget of $1.4 billion, and an endowment in excess of $3.9 billion.</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>As the new two-year residential college division of Boston College, Messina College offers a fully residential associate's degree program for 200 first-generation students each year. The program's goal is to prepare students to enroll in a bachelor's degree program or begin their professional careers. Messina College students live and study in a small-school setting on the Brookline Campus of Boston College and have full access to BC's facilities and events.</p> <p>The Assistant Director, Academic Support Services is responsible for assessing student academic needs and developing effective support strategies. He/she will coordinate academic support services for Messina College students with approved learning and attention accommodations with the Connors Family Learning Center, in addition to providing learning support and content tutoring to support the Brookline Campus community. Accommodation services include disability advocacy and advising, classroom and test accommodations, priority registration, electronic books, and referral for testing and additional services.</p> <p>He/she also serves as a resource for all students in the development of learning skills and study techniques. In this capacity, the Assistant Director works with Messina College students on an as-needed basis to develop advanced study skills, organization skills, and time management techniques. The Assistant Director assists faculty in promoting and reinforcing academic success skills; and serves as a resource to faculty to develop academic plans and support learning strategies. This person hires and supervises student tutors and Lynch practicum students to meet the academic support needs of the Brookline Campus.</p> <p>The Assistant Director also works closely with other University departments that provide academic tutoring services, including the Connors Family Learning Center and the Writing Center in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences English Department.</p> <p>Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $65,550 to $81,950; salary commensurate with relevant experience.</p> <p>Requirements</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>Master's degree in Special Education, Psychology, School Psychology or closely related field;</p> <p>3-5 years of relevant higher education experience in academic skill development and disability; excellent writing, speaking, diagnostic, clinical, instructional, and interpersonal skills.</p> <p>2-3 years of supervisory experience.</p> <p>Ability to interpret psycho-educational evaluations. Working knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other appropriate laws pertaining to higher education and disability.</p> <p>Knowledge of common issues/ challenges and best practices in supporting a population of undergraduate students to succeed in higher education (including students with disabilities, students of color, and students with high financial need.</p> <p>Demonstrated flexibility, diplomacy and a willingness to serve all students.
