<p>The Northport VA Medical Center is looking for a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist. The incumbent serves as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist for the Imaging Service located at Northport, NY. The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist at this grade level are to be qualified to provide diagnostic radiologic services, including x-ray radiology and computerized tomography (CT).</p> <p>VA Careers - Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist: https://youtube.com/embed/I-4ku5UMvWM</p> <p>Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional</p> <p>The incumbent is required to perform procedures and examinations under the direction of radiologists and other physicians at this complexity level 1 multi-mission facility, The objective of the examinations and procedures is to produce radiographic studies that are used in medical diagnosis and interpreted by radiologists and other physicians to locate injuries, foreign bodies, pathological conditions, or lesions within the body. The DRT prepares and administers contrast media and medications in accordance with State and Federal regulations and must be knowledgeable in digital radiography (DR), and picture archiving and communications systems (PACS). The incumbent should be able to utilize fixed and mobile X ray units and fixed and mobile fluoroscopy units in the main Radiology department, on the floor and intensive care units and Emergency Room and in the Operating Room (OR).</p> <p>The incumbent is required to cover nonbusiness hours, take call, and participate in the Holiday coverage schedule, as well as perform administrative and quality assurance tasks as assigned by the supervisor. Employees at this grade level serve as staff DRTs/CT at the full performance level. Additionally, this specialty modality requires specific knowledge of cross-sectional human anatomy and its application in spiral, and/or, multi-slice computer tomography, inclusive of 3-D reconstruction scans, including drainages, biopsies, and peripheral vascular, torso, cardiac and head and neck examinations. ARRT certification in Computerized Tomography (CT) , is required.</p> <p>Performs general radiology, operating room, and fluoroscopy exams. These exams maybe performed with contrast media to enhance images. He/she reviews the requisition with the radiologist or supervising physician to achieve the appropriate images for the clinical history required. Must have a good knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and cross-sectional anatomy, recognizing unusual images, and determine proper and safe positioning to best demonstrate area of interest and is required to determine the physical condition, needs and capabilities of the patient and to tailor exams to the patient's symptomology, age, limitations, and possible differentials common to that age group.</p> <p>Confers with the radiologist to determine requirements of non-standard exams and determines technical factors, positioning, and protocols. Has knowledge of patient's clinical record, diagnosis, and laboratory results to the extent needed.</p> <p>Prepares contrast material that are used in the Operating Room and for fluoroscopic examinations and must be competent to monitor the patient during the administration of contrast to prevent contamination and recognize contrast reactions and access site extravasations. Has the ability to monitor patient's physiologic changes during the procedure and keep the radiologist or supervising physician informed.</p> <p>The technologist requires specific knowledge and training in the location, appearance, and function of the various major and minor systems susceptible to radiological illumination; to interpret the examination request accurately; to understand the functioning and inter-relationship of the various organs; to use the methods and techniques which will identify organs appearing on the digital display monitor, or on film, and the various stages of the examination to judge the acceptability of the image and/or scan for diagnostic use and to emphasize the aspects of interest to the physician.</p> <p>Perform other duties as assigned.</p> <p>Work Schedule: Monday though Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm</p> <p>Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).</p> <p>Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)</p> <p>Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.</p> <p>Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.</p> <p>Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.</p> <p>Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA</p> <p>Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)</p> <p>Functional Statement #: 38162-F</p>
