<p>Be part of shaping the future of Special Education. Somerset County Public Schools is a small but mighty district recruiting elementary, middle, and high school Special Education Transition Teachers for the 2026-2027 school year, offering competitive salaries, a generous leave package, supportive leadership, and intentional systems designed to better support educators and students.</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>Somerset County Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and certified Special Education Transition Teacher. This role involves providing specialized instruction to students with moderate to severe disabilities, including those on the Autism spectrum. The successful candidate will report to the Supervisor of Special Education.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned by the Supervisor of Special Education or the Principal of the Career and Technology Program.</p> <ul> <li>Provides guidance and support to teachers as they develop transition plans and activities. </li><li>Maintains and continues development of the district transition model and updates the transition process manual accordingly. </li><li>Provides information to teachers, parents and students regarding transition planning and available post-secondary programs. </li><li>Provides embedded professional development and support to special and regular education teachers. </li><li>Provides formal orientations at secondary schools regarding agency services. </li><li>Assists students and parents with applications for programs such as Division of Rehabilitation Services, Developmental Disabilities Administration, and Behavioral Health Administration. </li><li>Assists in providing transition assessment materials to secondary special education students and teachers. </li><li>Provides information to special educators regarding transition assessment materials and strategies. </li><li>Supports the compliance team in the review of transition plans for compliance based on state and federal guidelines and provides feedback and technical assistance. </li><li>Coordinates transition fairs for county students/parents. </li><li>Acts as a contract and resource person for supplemental programs that extend student learning. </li><li>Participates/delivers in school and county workshops on transition best practices as directed. </li><li>Communicates the program's goals and interacts with students, parents, teachers, administrators and community members to establish a collaborative learning network. </li><li>Attends training and national conferences to keep current on transition evidence based practices. </li><li>Maintains current information on transition laws and policies in education, workforce development, and adult service agency changes/updates. </li><li>Implements/monitors student referrals to postsecondary agencies (DOES & lt; DDA, BHA, etc.) </li><li>Coordinates and oversees the job coaches and their activities. </li><li>Ensures that the Special Education Department teachers are informed of changes in laws, regulations, and policies regarding transition changes. </li><li>Monitors and supports implementation of community work experiences for high school students with disabilities. </li><li>Assists with record audits and monitoring for transition plans. </li><li>Analyzes student achievement and transition data as reflected in the State Performance Plan. </li><li>Ensures that school staff develop appropriate transition goals and services that meet instructional, compliance, and quality guidelines. </li><li>Provides parent information sessions to assist families in choosing community resources to support their children's transition to college and/or career. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <ul> <li>Education and/or Experience: Must have a Bachelor's degree in Special Education from an accredited institution </li></ul> <p>and at least two years' experience in a Special Education environment. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.</p> <ul> <li> <p>Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Current Maryland State Teaching Certificate required with an endorsement in Secondary Special Education.</p> </li><li> <p>Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional</p> </li></ul> <p>and trade journals, technical procedures, or instructional textbooks and instructional aides. Ability to write reports, procedure manuals and provide</p> <p>detailed data analysis as directed. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, administrators, local, state and federal agency officials and the general public.</p> <ul> <li> <p>Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.</p> </li><li> <p>Reasoning Ability:bAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.</p> </li><li> <p>Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet</p> </li></ul> <p>software; Project Management software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software. Pursues training and development opportunities to expand job knowledge.</p> <ul> <li>Other Skills and Abilities: </li></ul> <p>Must possess strong leadership skills. Ability to motivate others to perform well and give performance feedback is essential.</p> <ul> <li>Other Qualifications: Must be able to travel to multiple schools within the County on a regular basis. Attendance is also required at numerous out of town meetings and training </li></ul> <p>sessions. Must be dependable. Ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent. Arrives to appointments and meetings on time. Joins various professional organizations and read professional journals and other publications in order to remain current in the development of the profession.</p> <ul> <li>Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an </li></ul> <p>employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
