<p>Provost & Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs POSITION DETAILS Few institutions carry a name with as much moral weight as Medgar Evers College. Named for the slain civil rights leader who gave his life in service to justice, the College was established with a clear charge: open the doors of higher education to those who had too long been shut out. Located in Central Brooklyn, Medgar Evers College is a four-year senior college within The City University of New York (CUNY), offering baccalaureate and associate degree programs across the liberal arts and sciences, business, education, and health professions. The student body reflects the community - predominantly Black and Caribbean American, largely first-generation, and deeply motivated. Medgar Evers College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) and is recognized for its work in community engagement, civic leadership, and producing graduates who make meaningful contributions to their professions and communities. Medgar Evers College invites nominations and applications for the position of Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. This is a transformative leadership opportunity for a visionary and values-driven academic administrator to serve as the College's chief academic officer and second-ranking officer overall. Reporting directly to the President of the College, the Provost provides broad and strategic oversight of all academic programs, faculty affairs, curriculum development, academic support services, accreditation, and institutional research. The Provost serves as a steward of the College's intellectual mission and plays a decisive role in shaping the academic future of the institution, championing the success of faculty and students alike. Duties and responsibilities will include: - Articulate and advance a compelling, inclusive academic vision aligned with the College's mission and strategic plan -Provide inspirational and collaborative leadership to Deans, Department Chairs, and the broader faculty community -Champion curricular innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and continuous improvement in academic programming -Oversee the development, assessment, and growth of academic programs -Lead and support accreditation processes, including institutional and programmatic accreditation activities - Manage the Academic Affairs portfolio - schools, departments, and academic support units - with consistency, fairness, and clear accountability -Develop and steward the academic budget -Participate in institutional strategic planning and lead academic effectiveness initiatives -Lead faculty recruitment with an eye toward diversity, scholarly excellence, and fit with the College's mission -Administer promotion, tenure, and evaluation processes with transparency, rigor, and procedural integrity -Invest in faculty development - creating meaningful opportunities for professional growth at every career stage -Connect academic programming to measurable student success outcomes, including retention, progression, and graduation -Stay close to the student experience - visible, accessible, and genuinely interested in what students need to succeed QUALIFICATIONS This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. Other Qualifications: -Successful candidates must have an earned doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree) from an accredited institution, a minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience at the level of Dean or above at a college or university, and a record of scholarship, teaching, and service sufficient to qualify for tenure and appointment at the rank of --Full Professor in an academic discipline offered at the College . -A genuine commitment to the mission of Medgar Evers College - not as talking points, but as a personal and professional conviction -Outstanding communication skills across all settings: one-on-one conversations, large public forums, written correspondence, and difficult exchanges -A leadership style defined by openness, collaboration, and a consistent willingness to share information and explain decisions -Personal warmth and emotional intelligence - the ability to read a room, connect with people across differences, and make others feel seen -A principled commitment to honesty - someone who tells the truth, owns mistakes, and does not deflect responsibility when things go wrong -The drive and determination to advance the academic agenda without waiting for perfect conditions, making excuses, or letting inertia win -Participation in formal leadership development programs in higher education administration -A history of cultivating external funding through grants, sponsorships, or academic partnerships -Experience managing accreditation, program review, or institutional transformation efforts CUNY TITLE Senior Vice President COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS $240,000 - $270,000 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
