The University will not sponsor applicants for this position for employment visas.</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>The University of Missouri - St. Louis (UMSL) Center for Teaching and Learning team is seeking an experienced and innovative Instructional Designer IV to collaborate with faculty in the design, development, and enhancement of high-quality online courses. This individual will play a critical role in promoting continuous growth in online teaching skills and ensuring courses align with the Five Pillars of Best Practices in Online Course Design. In addition, the Instructional Designer IV will mentor their instructional designer colleagues, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team culture. The ideal candidate will bring at least 5 years of experience in instructional design within higher education and a strong commitment to improving online learning experiences.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ol> <li>Online Course Design and Development </li></ol> <ul> <li>Collaborate with faculty to design, develop, and implement engaging and accessible online courses. </li><li>Provide guidance on curriculum structure, learning outcomes, and assessment strategies. </li><li>Leverage instructional technologies to create interactive and innovative learning experiences. </li></ul> <ol start="2"> <li>Faculty Development and Training </li></ol> <ul> <li>Develop and deliver workshops, training sessions, and individual consultations to enhance faculty expertise in online teaching. </li><li>Promote best practices in pedagogy, technology use, and student engagement. </li><li>Provide ongoing support and resources to faculty for continuous improvement in online instruction. </li></ul> <ol start="3"> <li>Course Review and Quality Assurance </li></ol> <ul> <li>Evaluate online courses based on the Five Pillars of Best Practices in Online Course Design (e.g., learner engagement, accessibility, alignment, technology integration, and assessment). </li><li>Provide actionable feedback to faculty to ensure courses meet institutional and accreditation standards. </li><li>Stay current with emerging trends and standards in online education to maintain the highest quality course offerings. </li></ul> <ol start="4"> <li>Mentorship and Team Development </li></ol> <ul> <li>Serve as a mentor to instructional designer peers, sharing expertise, best practices, and guidance on projects. </li><li>Foster a collaborative environment that encourages knowledge sharing and professional growth among team members. </li><li>Provide constructive feedback and support to peers to enhance team performance and skill development. </li></ul> <ol start="5"> <li>Technology Integration and Support </li></ol> <ul> <li>Recommend and implement instructional technologies that align with course goals and enhance learning. </li><li>Collaborate with CTL, IT and LMS administrators to troubleshoot issues and ensure seamless delivery of online courses. </li><li>Pilot and assess new tools and platforms for potential adoption. </li></ul> <ol start="6"> <li>Program Collaboration and Leadership </li></ol> <ul> <li>Partner with academic departments, administrators, and instructional support teams to align online course design with institutional goals. </li><li>Serve as a subject matter expert on instructional design practices and emerging technologies in online education. </li><li>Contribute to the strategic planning of online learning initiatives. </li></ul> <p>Shift</p> <p>40 hours/week with opportunity for four 10-hour days as flexible schedule option</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Master's degree in related/relevant area and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Doctorate preferred </li><li>Certification in instructional design or related frameworks (e.g., Quality Matters). </li><li>Experience supporting instructional design across multiple disciplines in higher education </li><li>Experience teaching online in higher education </li><li>Experience in universal design for learning (UDL) and accessibility compliance. </li><li>Knowledge of emerging technologies such as adaptive learning platforms or AI in education. </li></ul> <p>Anticipated Hiring Range</p> <p>$58,472.80 - $83,304.00</p> <p>Application Materials</p> <p>Application materials include a cover letter, resume or CV, and a statement about their approach to supporting faculty with online course design and delivery.
