<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Position Purpose</p> <p>The 1:1 Paraeducator supports the individual needs of an assigned preschool student with developmental or behavioral challenges. Under the direction of certified staff, the paraeducator provides academic, behavioral, and personal care support to help the student participate meaningfully in classroom and school activities.</p> <p>Essential Job Functions</p> <p>Individualized Support:</p> <ul> <li>Provide consistent, direct support to assigned student in accordance with their Individualized Education Program (IEP) or Behavior Support Plan (BIP). </li></ul> <p>Instructional Assistance:</p> <ul> <li>Reinforce teacher-directed instruction and assist with skill building in communication, self-regulation, and independence. </li><li>Support the student in participating in classroom activities and instruction, adapting materials as needed. </li><li>Support the student in developing peer relationships and participating in classroom routines and activities to the greatest extent possible. </li><li>Encourage social interaction and communication with peers. </li></ul> <p>Collaboration:</p> <ul> <li>Work closely with the classroom teacher, special education staff, and related service providers to ensure consistent support. </li><li>Communicate regularly with team members about student progress, challenges, and successes. </li></ul> <p>Supervision & Safety:</p> <ul> <li>Ensure close supervision of the student during all school-related activities including transitions, recess, lunch, and arrival/dismissal times. </li></ul> <p>Behavior:</p> <ul> <li>Maintain current certification in Physical/Psychological Management Training (PMT) to ensure safe and effective management of crisis situations and to promote the well-being of students and staff. </li><li>Enter data related to student behavior, interventions, and outcomes into designated behavior tracking systems. </li></ul> <p>Reliability & Professional Expectations</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrate consistent punctuality and maintain regular attendance. </li><li>Follow assigned schedules and routines without needing frequent reminders or redirection. </li><li>Maintain a positive, respectful, and professional demeanor with students, staff, and families. </li><li>Always adhere to school and district policies and expectations. </li></ul> <p>Documentation:</p> <ul> <li>Maintain accurate records of student performance, behaviors, and activities. </li><li>Maintain confidentiality; participate in training and staff meetings; follow school policies and procedures. </li></ul> <p>Note: The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities. It is not meant to be all inclusive of every task and responsibility.</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel). </li><li>Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals. </li><li>Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others. </li><li>Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work. </li><li>Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required. </li><li>Effective writing and verbal communication skills. </li></ul> <p>Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards</p> <ul> <li>Lift greater than 25 pounds. </li><li>Get from kneeling to standing and standing to kneeling with ease and without outside support. </li><li>Kneel on one knee, both knees. </li><li>Get up and down from floor without assistance. </li><li>Bend from the legs with ease. </li><li>Shuffle quickly on your feet front to back, back to front, side to side. </li><li>Works in standard office, school building environments, and on buses or vans. </li><li>Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications Profile:</p> <ul> <li>(1) a high school diploma plus two years of college credit (60 credits), or (2) an Associate of Arts degree, or (3) a passing score on the ParaPro. </li><li>In early childhood settings: (1) Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) or (2) twelve credits in early childhood. </li><li>Prior experience working with Preschool children desirable. </li></ul> <p>To access the job description and salary range please click https://www.crec.org/careers/jobs.php.</p> <p>JOB ID 13197 @ CREC: External Job Opportunities (Careers)</p>
