<p>Job Description:</p> <p>The College Advising Corps in Pennsylvania places recent college graduates in partner high schools to serve as full-time College Advisers. The program is part of an Americorp grant, funded annually. We believe every student should have access to the support and guidance they need to achieve their dreams. We partner with institutions across the country to place recent college graduates in under-resourced high schools where they serve as near-peer advisers. Our advisers help students achieve their postsecondary goals -- whether that includes community college, a four-year institution, trade school, military service, or the workforce.</p> <p>College Advisers guide high school students and their families through the postsecondary planning process through one-on-one advising and group meetings. Advisers work closely with school counselors, teachers, principals, and community leaders to build effective partnerships. Advisers collaborate with school staff to plan and execute FAFSA completion events, college application initiatives, career exploration workshops, college field trips, college representative visits, and a senior Decision Day celebration.</p> <p>Applicants do not need prior college advising experience in order to apply to this role. College Advising Corps will provide condensed training for you to be able to fulfill the responsibilities of this position. Being an Adviser requires strong commitments to service and the value of a postsecondary education.</p> <p>Advisers are placed in schools across the state of Pennsylvania. We currently have a vacancy at Northeastern High School located in York Country, Pennsylvania.</p> <p>Advisers receive an hourly rate of $15.00.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <p>College Advising Corps advisers will be expected to tailor services and programs to meet the specific needs of their assigned high schools, in an effort to increase college-going rates and perform the following duties:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Provide mentorship and guidance to any student or family seeking assistance.</p> </li><li> <p>Through individualized, holistic advising, interact with students daily to provide relevant information on the higher education experience, the college/university admissions process, and pertinent career opportunities.</p> </li><li> <p>Help students complete college applications, financial aid forms, scholarship materials, and job applications.</p> </li><li> <p>Organize and promote events that encourage students and families to consider post secondary educational opportunities.</p> </li><li> <p>Host classroom presentations, workshops, and assemblies around different aspects of the college-going process.</p> </li><li> <p>Plan field trips to colleges and job opportunities.</p> </li><li> <p>Host college application completion activities.</p> </li><li> <p>Conceptualize and implement a senior Decision Day</p> </li><li> <p>Establish positive and productive relationships within each assigned high school and the administrative team.</p> </li><li> <p>In consultation with the College Advising Corps in Pennsylvania administrative team, assess the particular needs of each school and execute strategies to meet these needs.</p> </li><li> <p>Connect and communicate regularly with on-site supervisor and other counseling and administrative personnel.</p> </li><li> <p>Integrate within the broader school community to establish mutual trust.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrate administrative and data management skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Work collaboratively with the College Advising Corps administrative team and other Advisers to implement college access goals based on annual objectives.</p> </li><li> <p>Submit weekly reports to the PCAC administrative team, documenting progress on goals, successes, and challenges.</p> </li><li> <p>Collect and analyze data on key performance indicators to help inform decision making and goals.</p> </li><li> <p>Complete information requests from the College Advising Corps in Pennsylvania administrative team and College Advising Corps National Office.</p> </li><li> <p>Represent College Advising Corps to stakeholders and potential supporters through donor luncheons, information sessions, and networking events.</p> </li><li> <p>Be proactive in designing initiatives to increase the school's college-going culture.</p> </li><li> <p>Utilize strong time management and organizational skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain expertise in college access, admissions, and financial aid advising.</p> </li><li> <p>Attend monthly in-service trainings and bi-weekly conference calls.</p> </li><li> <p>Meet regularly with your regional supervisor to set goals.</p> </li><li> <p>Other duties as assigned by the high school partner that align with the goals of the College Advising Corps in Pennsylvania</p> </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Due to the near-peer model of the College Advising Corps, applicants must have earned a Bachelor's degree between 2020-2024. </li><li>Ability to articulate a deep appreciation of the values of a post-secondary education and public service. </li><li>Previous experience demonstrating leadership skills and ability to influence others in a positive manner while achieving goals </li><li>As the Adviser's immediate supervisor may be located at F&M or within their region, an ability to establish a strong remote supervision relationship through communication and organizational skills are key. </li><li>Advisers are expected to live and work in their assigned county, work full-time, in-person in their assigned school(s), and work effectively with those from diverse backgrounds. </li><li>Since this position serves in mostly rural communities, reliable access to transportation for the daily commute to work is required. </li><li>Ability to provide professional, quality service and work with others in a collegial manner. </li><li>Because this position works with minors (non F&M students under the age of 18) please review the link below that includes information regarding the protection of minors. The online training course must be completed at least once every two years by faculty, staff and Franklin & Marshall students who interact with minors. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of reference checks, a criminal background verification, Pennsylvania ACT 153 background clearances, and verification of credentials.
