<p>Job Title: Assistant Medical Director Date Prepared: April 2026</p> <p>Location: Community Health Systems, Inc. - Beloit</p> <p>Department: Medical Exempt</p> <p>JOB SUMMARY</p> <p>The Assistant Medical Director (RN) serves as the operational clinical leader for nursing and clinical support services within the outpatient health center. Working in partnership with the Medical Director, this role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality day-to-day clinical operations.</p> <p>The position provides direct supervision and operational oversight of nursing and clinical support staff, manages clinic flow and staffing coordination, and ensures consistent execution of clinical workflows, quality initiatives, and regulatory requirements consistent with Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) standards.</p> <p>This role bridges medical leadership and clinic operations to ensure care delivery is efficient, compliant, and patient-centered.</p> <p>SUPERVISORY STRUCTURE</p> <p>Directly Supervises:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Registered Nurses (RNs)</p> </li><li> <p>Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs)</p> </li><li> <p>Medical Assistants (MAs)</p> </li><li> <p>Clinical Support Staff as assigned</p> </li></ul> <p>Day-to-Day Supervisory Responsibilities Include:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Assigning and coordinating daily clinical staffing</p> </li><li> <p>Managing nursing workflows and delegation of clinical tasks</p> </li><li> <p>Monitoring staff performance and productivity</p> </li><li> <p>Addressing operational issues impacting patient care</p> </li><li> <p>Providing real-time coaching and clinical guidance</p> </li><li> <p>Managing call-offs, coverage adjustments, and workflow redistribution</p> </li><li> <p>Escalating clinical or operational concerns to the Medical Director as appropriate</p> </li></ul> <p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS</p> <p>Clinical Operations & Clinic Flow</p> <ul> <li> <p>Oversee daily clinical operations to ensure efficient patient flow and access to care</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate nursing and clinical support staffing schedules to meet patient volume demands</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor rooming processes, triage workflows, and clinical throughput</p> </li><li> <p>Identify operational barriers and implement workflow improvements</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure providers are supported with appropriate clinical staffing and resources</p> </li><li> <p>Serve as the primary operational contact for nursing-related clinic issues</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with front desk and operations staff to align scheduling and clinical capacity</p> </li></ul> <p>Nursing Leadership & Staff Management</p> <ul> <li> <p>Provide direct supervision and accountability for nursing and clinical support staff</p> </li><li> <p>Establish clear expectations for clinical performance, workflows, and patient care standards</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct hiring interviews, onboarding, competency validation, and performance evaluations</p> </li><li> <p>Provide coaching, corrective action, and progressive discipline in collaboration with HR</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor staff competencies, scope-of-practice adherence, and clinical documentation standards</p> </li><li> <p>Lead regular nursing staff meetings and operational huddles</p> </li></ul> <p>Clinical Workflow & Care Delivery</p> <ul> <li> <p>Standardize nursing workflows across providers and clinic locations (if applicable)</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure consistent execution of:</p> </li><li> <p>Triage protocols</p> </li><li> <p>Standing orders</p> </li><li> <p>Medication administration processes</p> </li><li> <p>Care management workflows</p> </li><li> <p>Support implementation of team-based care models</p> </li><li> <p>Assist with escalation of complex patient care concerns</p> </li></ul> <p>Quality Improvement & Follow-Through</p> <ul> <li> <p>Partner with Quality and Medical Leadership to operationalize QAPI initiatives</p> </li><li> <p>Translate quality goals into actionable nursing workflows</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor staff follow-through on clinical quality measures including:</p> </li><li> <p>UDS indicators</p> </li><li> <p>Preventive care metrics</p> </li><li> <p>Chronic disease management protocols</p> </li><li> <p>Address gaps in documentation, workflow compliance, or care delivery affecting quality outcomes</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in chart reviews, workflow audits, and performance improvement initiatives</p> </li></ul> <p>Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management</p> <ul> <li> <p>Ensure nursing practices comply with:</p> </li><li> <p>HRSA/FQHC program requirements</p> </li><li> <p>CMS Conditions of Participation</p> </li><li> <p>Wisconsin scope-of-practice regulations</p> </li><li> <p>Organizational policies and clinical protocols</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain clinic readiness for HRSA Operational Site Visits, audits, and accreditation reviews</p> </li><li> <p>Reinforce infection control, safety, and risk management practices</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with leadership on incident review and corrective action planning</p> </li></ul> <p>Policy, Protocol & Operational Development</p> <ul> <li> <p>Assist the Medical Director with development and maintenance of clinical policies, standing orders, and nursing protocols</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure policies are operationally feasible and consistently implemented</p> </li><li> <p>Provide frontline operational input into clinical program development</p> </li></ul> <p>Direct Patient Care (As Needed)</p> <ul> <li> <p>Provide limited direct patient care within RN scope of practice to support clinic operations</p> </li><li> <p>Assist during staffing shortages, high-volume periods, or clinical escalation situations</p> </li><li> <p>Support patient education, care coordination, and triage activities</p> </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE</p> <p>Required</p> <ul> <li> <p>Active Registered Nurse license in Wisconsin (or eligible prior to start)</p> </li><li> <p>3-5 years clinical nursing experience in ambulatory care, primary care, or community health</p> </li><li> <p>Minimum 2 years supervisory or leadership experience</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated experience managing clinical workflows and staff operations</p> </li></ul> <p>Preferred</p> <ul> <li> <p>BSN or higher degree</p> </li><li> <p>FQHC or community health center experience</p> </li><li> <p>Experience with population health management and quality reporting (UDS/HEDIS)</p> </li><li> <p>Experience supervising multidisciplinary clinical teams</p> </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES</p> <ul> <li> <p>Strong operational leadership and decision-making skill</p> </li><li> <p>Working knowledge of FQHC clinical and regulatory requirements</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to manage competing operational priorities in a fast-paced environment</p> </li><li> <p>Effective conflict resolution and staff coaching
