<p>Job Description Summary</p> <p>Organization's Summary Statement:</p> <p>The University of Maryland Eastern Shore's (UMES) Department of Agriculture, Food and Resource Sciences seeks applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Professor in Agricultural Economics. This position is a nine-month, tenure-track appointment. The anticipated starting date for this position is fall 2025.</p> <p>UMES offers exciting opportunities for professional growth. The department is actively engaged in teaching, research, and extension and has many faculty and staff with split appointments with UMES Extension and UMES Agriculture Experiment Station. This position will have teaching, research, and service responsibilities.</p> <p>University Information: The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is the 1890-Land-Grant University in Maryland, located in a rural setting on the Delmarva Peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay. The major metropolitan areas of Washington D.C., Baltimore, MD, and Philadelphia, PA, are within easy travel distance.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <p>The successful candidate will teach, conduct research, and engage in department, university, and community service. The mix of responsibilities will be largely related to the department's Agribusiness Management program needs, and they include:</p> <ul> <li>Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Agribusiness Management, </li></ul> <p>Economics, and Agricultural Economics.</p> <ul> <li>Advise undergraduate students. </li><li>Advise and direct graduate students in the Agricultural Economics </li></ul> <p>program.</p> <ul> <li>Develop new undergraduate and graduate courses in Agribusiness </li></ul> <p>Management, Agricultural Economics, and Economics.</p> <ul> <li>Help in the recruitment of students. </li><li>Develop nationally and internationally recognized research programs. </li><li>Develop interdisciplinary relationships with faculty in other Departments. </li><li>Actively seek research and teaching grants and contracts. </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Ph. D. in Agricultural Economics or related disciplines strongly emphasizing </li></ul> <p>quantitative methods, international trade, and development.</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated excellence in and commitment to teaching, advising, and </li></ul> <p>mentoring students with diverse backgrounds.</p> <ul> <li>Evidence of scholarly publications. </li><li>Evidence of grantsmanship. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to develop nationally and internationally recognized </li></ul> <p>programs to serve the agricultural sector of the state, region, nation, and</p> <p>the world, as well as participate in interdisciplinary research.</p> <p>Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to interact productively with others in a diverse setting, including </li></ul> <p>excellent oral and written communication skills.</p> <p>Physical Demands:</p> <ul> <li>May require extended periods of standing, bending, sitting at desk. </li><li>May require lifting up to 25 lbs. </li><li>Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and </li></ul> <p>internally.</p> <ul> <li>Requires operation of a variety of office equipment. </li></ul> <p>Additional Job Details</p> <p>Required Application Materials: Qualified candidates must submit a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, statement of research experience and interests, unofficial transcripts, and the names of three current professional references, including e-mail address and telephone number.
