<p>Job Category Faculty Position Title Assistant Professor of Computer Science Tenure-Track Working Title Assistant Professor of Computer Science Scheduled Hours Per Week Salary FLSA Status Exempt</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>Join a student-centered department at a scenic, public liberal arts university in the Appalachian Mountains, where you'll help shape the next generation of computing professionals.</p> <p>The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Concord University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Computer Science, beginning August 2025. We seek a passionate educator and collaborator who is excited to engage undergraduates and contribute to the growth of a tight-knit, collegial department.</p> <p>The department offers four computing degree programs:</p> <ul> <li>Computer Science </li><li>Computer Information Systems </li><li>Cybersecurity </li><li>Data Analytics </li></ul> <p>Faculty teach a 12 contact-hour load per semester. Class sizes are small (typically 15-20 students), providing a meaningful and engaging teaching environment. New faculty members receive peer mentoring and support from our Center for Teaching and Learning. Additional support is available for mentoring undergraduate research, participating in faculty development, and leading student-centered initiatives.</p> <p>Faculty are expected to develop and teach a variety of courses across our computing programs. Areas of interest include cybersecurity, data analytics, and platform-based software development. The successful candidate must also be comfortable teaching-or willing to develop expertise in-fundamental computer science courses such as programming, algorithms, and systems. As a small department, we rely on faculty who are adaptable and ready to support the full breadth of our curriculum.</p> <p>We are particularly interested in candidates who value teaching in a student-focused environment and can mentor a variety of undergraduates. An undergraduate background at a small college is a plus, as it often reflects familiarity with the type of high-impact, relationship-based education we strive to provide.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities</p> <p>Duty/Responsibility</p> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Design and facilitate learning experiences that enable student success and achieve student learning outcomes.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop expectations and assess student learning outcomes.</p> </li><li> <p>Effectively teach a wide range of subjects as qualified and assigned.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in development of curricula.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide service to the university, which may include:</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in program assessment activities</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in departmental and college service</p> </li><li> <p>Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.</p> </li></ul> <p>% of Time 100</p> <p>Education/Knowledge</p> <p>Minimum Education Master's Required Licenses/Certification</p> <p>Applicants must have a minimum of a Master's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, or a closely related field; a Ph.D. is strongly preferred and will be required for tenure. Candidates with three to five years of industry and/or teaching experience are especially encouraged to apply.</p> <p>Required Skills</p> <ul> <li>Strong interpersonal abilities with excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty, and administrators. </li><li>The ability to deliver lectures, prepare course materials, and evaluate student performance. </li><li>The successful candidate must possess demonstrated teaching competency and also must have a strong commitment to, and understanding of, the role of CS education. </li></ul> <p>Required Experience</p> <p>Type of experience Needed Experience with organizing or coaching cybersecurity competitions (e.g., CTFs) is a plus Amount of Experience Needed (Months/Years) More than 2 years</p> <p>Posting Detail Information</p> <p>Close Date Open Until Filled Yes Additional Information</p> <p>Concord University is a public liberal arts institution with an enrollment of approximately 2,000 students. Nestled in the scenic mountains of southern West Virginia, our campus offers access to year-round outdoor recreation, a close-knit community, and a supportive academic environment. Candidates selected from this interview will then be invited to campus. This visit will include a teaching demonstration by the candidate.</p> <p>The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science has seven full-time faculty. Five Mathematics faculty teach General Education courses and service courses to the University.
