<p>Work with ophthalmologists to assist during eye surgery and setting up and performing maintenance on equipment. In addition, ophthalmology technologists often perform diagnostic testing, including measuring a patient's vision. Technologists in this career field must be familiar with ophthalmic pharmacology and understand the use of corrective lenses.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Meets with patients to discuss ocular medical history, chief complaint, current medications, allergies and family history to prepare the patient for the physician </li><li>Performs initial work up including visual testing, color vision testing, retinoscopy, and refraction for the physician to review and consider during visit </li><li>Performs various diagnostic tests and measurements including A-Scans, diagnostic ultrasounds, keratometry, lensometry, tonometry, and visual fields to support the physician's review </li><li>Reviews patient records for completeness to allow for a timely and efficient patient visit </li><li>Maintains supplies and equipment in examining rooms to allow for adequate patient care </li><li>Completes in basket messages to allow for timely communication to patients and providers </li><li>Maintains overall patient experience and safety, following all emergency clinical policies and protocols, to allow for optimal experience of care </li><li>High School Diploma </li><li>Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) by International Joint Commission on Allied Health personnel In Ophthalmology </li><li>1 year experience as an Ophthalmic Tech </li></ul>
