This position reports directly to the BYU Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships and maintains a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Associate Dean of Student Experience & Well-Being within the School of Medicine.</p> <p>The Director serves as the primary School of Medicine lead for financial aid student advising and institutional aid program implementation, while coordinating closely with the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office for systems, processing, compliance, and regulatory administration. The role ensures an exceptional student experience while maintaining full compliance with federal, institutional, and accreditation requirements.</p> <p>What you will be doing in this position</p> <p>School of Medicine Financial Aid Leadership</p> <ul> <li> <p>Serve as the lead financial aid representative within the School of Medicine, ensuring alignment with institutional policies and Financial Aid and Scholarships processes.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships on policy development, ensuring medical school needs are appropriately incorporated into university-wide processes.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide strategic input on financial aid planning, including Cost of Attendance (COA), student borrowing trends, and program growth.</p> </li></ul> <p>Student Advising and Financial Wellness</p> <ul> <li> <p>Provide comprehensive, individualized financial aid counseling to prospective and enrolled medical students across all four years.</p> </li><li> <p>Design and deliver a longitudinal financial literacy program addressing budgeting, borrowing, repayment strategies, and physician-specific financial considerations.</p> </li><li> <p>Advise students on federal loan programs, repayment options, and Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF).</p> </li><li> <p>Counsel students on complex situations including leaves of absence, academic changes, and special circumstances.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with School of Medicine leadership to proactively identify and support students experiencing financial hardship.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop and deliver workshops, communications, and tools to support informed financial decision-making.</p> </li></ul> <p>Coordination with BYU Financial Aid and Scholarships</p> <ul> <li> <p>Partner with BYU Financial Aid and Scholarships on all financial aid processing functions, including:</p> </li><li> <p>Packaging and awarding of federal aid</p> </li><li> <p>Disbursement of funds</p> </li><li> <p>ISIR processing, loan origination, and reconciliation</p> </li><li> <p>SAP monitoring and R2T4 calculations</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate timelines, communication strategies, and student-facing processes to ensure a seamless experience.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide school-specific context and oversight for student eligibility, enrollment changes, and academic pathways that impact aid.</p> </li><li> <p>Support resolution of complex cases requiring coordination between the School of Medicine and Financial Aid and Scholarships.</p> </li></ul> <p>Institutional Aid and Scholarship Administration</p> <ul> <li> <p>Lead the development and administration of School of Medicine institutional aid programs, including scholarships and internal loan programs.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee application processes, selection criteria, and awarding in coordination with Financial Aid and Scholarships and university systems.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure institutional aid is administered equitably and in compliance with federal and institutional regulations.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor and reconcile institutional aid utilization in coordination with Financial Aid and Scholarships and University Financial Services.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide reporting and analysis on scholarship outcomes and impact</p> </li><li> <p>Seek School of Medicine participation in federal scholarship and loan programs such as Health and Human Services</p> </li></ul> <p>Compliance, Accreditation & Reporting</p> <ul> <li> <p>Serve as the School of Medicine's primary financial aid contact for LCME accreditation, including Standards related to student financial support and advising.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure school-level practices align with federal Title IV regulations in coordination with BYU Financial Aid and Scholarships.</p> </li><li> <p>Support audits, program reviews, and compliance activities in partnership with Financial Aid and Scholarships.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain appropriate documentation, procedures, and records to support compliance and audit readiness.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor regulatory changes and coordinate implementation with Financial Aid and Scholarships.</p> </li></ul> <p>Collaboration and Institutional Integration</p> <ul> <li> <p>Maintain strong working relationships with:</p> </li><li> <p>BYU Financial Aid & Scholarships</p> </li><li> <p>Student Financial Services</p> </li><li> <p>University Registrar</p> </li><li> <p>School of Medicine leadership and student support teams</p> </li><li> <p>Contribute to cross-functional initiatives supporting student success and well-being.</p> </li><li> <p>Partner with Enrollment Services Research and Reporting team to provide financial aid data for accreditation and planning.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in university and professional committees, training, and development activities.</p> </li></ul> <p>What qualifies you for this role</p> <p>Required Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Bachelor's degree and 3 years of Federal Financial Aid experience or equivalent.</p> </li><li> <p>Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in leadership,</p> </li></ul> <p>preferably within higher education or financial aid.</p> <p>Preferred Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Experience in graduate, health professions, or professional school financial aid</p> </li><li> <p>Familiarity with LCME accreditation standards</p> </li><li> <p>Experience in shared-service or decentralized financial aid models</p> </li><li> <p>Experience with Oracle SFA or similar systems</p> </li></ul> <p>Skills & Competencies:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Comprehensive knowledge of federal Title IV financial aid regulations and compliance requirements</p> </li><li> <p>Strong student-centered mindset with a commitment to service, advising, and student success</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent communication, counseling, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly</p> </li><li> <p>Proven ability to collaborate, influence, and build relationships across institutional units and within a matrixed reporting structure</p> </li><li> <p>Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy</p> </li><li> <p>Strategic thinking combined with the ability to execute operationally in a growing and evolving
