<p>Port Discovery Children's Museum, one of the top Children's Museum in the United States and a top cultural institution in Baltimore's Inner Harbor, is seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our team as our Director of Exhibits & Facilities. The Museum provides experiences that ignite imagination, inspire learning, and nurture growth through play.</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The Director of Exhibits and Facilities' work spans across broad, critical museum functions including, but not limited to, existing exhibit upkeep, new exhibit development, information technology, systems management and back-of-house work functions. The successful candidate must be highly organized, skilled at managing and coordinating a wide range of operational initiatives, and capable of building and maintaining positive internal and external relationships.</p> <p>Primary duties include providing project management and logistical support to the exhibits and facilities department and other museum departments, related to the facilities and exhibit needs of the museum. The Director of Exhibits and Facilities leads a team of 3-5 Technicians, oversees the daily supervision of the Operations and Maintenance Manager, and liaises with external vendors.</p> <p>Schedule:</p> <p>The position works Monday-Friday, but hours may change based on museum and staffing needs. Availability during special events, evenings, weekends, and holidays, is occasionally required. This role is deemed "Essential Services" and requires onsite presence during inclement weather.</p> <p>Compensation:</p> <p>Salary range is $80k to $85k annually, depending on relevant experience.</p> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Education & Experience: Associate degree, Trade School Certificate, BA or BS in art, engineering, design and fabrication, or a related field. Alternatively, equivalent commensurate experience is acceptable. Six to ten years of relevant museum exhibit, facilities, and project management professional experience is required, including a minimum of three years of management experience. </li><li>Project management, high level critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills with the ability to connect operational duties to overall organizational goals and strategies. Experience with project management software necessary. </li><li>Detail-oriented and organized, handling multiple priorities simultaneously while meeting deadlines. </li><li>Proficiency in carpentry, metalwork, plastics, AV systems, and electronics. </li><li>Familiarity with various computer programs such as design, project management, and various interactive software programs. </li><li>Understand raw materials, production processes, and material uses for repair projects </li><li>Expertise in materials, methods, and tools used in exhibits and building repairs. </li><li>Problem-solving skills, particularly for AV, electronic and electromechanical systems, including legacy AV systems from the 1990s onwards, are a plus. </li></ul> <p>Sampling of Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Collaborate with the Vice President of Exhibits and Facilities to identify, plan, manage, and delegate repairs and projects for short-, medium-, and long-term schedules.</p> </li><li> <p>Adherence and support to the overall mission of Port Discovery to provide unique opportunities and high-quality experiences that make play accessible, educational, and fun for all.</p> </li><li> <p>Creates and maintains a facility and exhibits repair calendar that ensures weekly/monthly/annual building functions are maintained and adjusted/improved as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop annual maintenance plans, schedules, and improvement plans/projects.</p> </li><li> <p>Design systems to help streamline repair identification and delegation.</p> </li><li> <p>Create organizational systems to catalog equipment, tools, supplies, and historical repair information.</p> </li><li> <p>Directly supervise a manager and 3-5 technicians.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintenance Repair & Upkeep</p> </li><li> <p>Diagnose and resolve repair issues, using manuals or innovative solutions as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Address urgent repair requests from the museum floor.</p> </li><li> <p>Log repairs in the Asana tracking system (software familiarity a plus but not essential).</p> </li><li> <p>Upgrades & Improvements</p> </li><li> <p>Provide exhibit project management, including planning and oversight of short and long-term museum exhibit projects.</p> </li><li> <p>Delegate design and fabrication tasks to address recurrent maintenance or safety issues.</p> </li></ul> <p>Benefits:</p> <p>Port Discovery provides you with the opportunity to make a difference in the community and in the lives of children. Use of hands to manipulate tools and materials and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to climb ladders and handle them safely (setting up, breaking down, and moving around). Fear of heights or confined spaces could create a significant hardship. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Work requires the use of machine tools with the need to protect against exposure to dust, chemicals and solvents.</p> <p>This position is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, reaching high and low places, applying adhesives, painting and finishing. Must be willing and comfortable working in large crowds of children. The position may require travel for repair related issues.
