<p>The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is accountable for providing diagnostic and rehabilitative services</p> <p>to pediatric patients at risk for speech, voice, language, hearing, communication, swallowing, and related</p> <p>disabilities. Services are provided in both the acute care and outpatient setting to children with a range of</p> <p>developmental and medical diagnoses. The SLP is also accountable for self and department development</p> <p>and works on projects and assignments aligned with professional interests and departmental needs, in</p> <p>accordance with the established Professional Practice Model.</p> <p>PATIENT CARE:</p> <ul> <li>Screen, identify, diagnose, intervene and follow-up for disorders of: articulation, fluency, and voice; </li></ul> <p>phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics; oral, pharyngeal, upper-esophageal swallow</p> <p>and related functions; cognitive aspects of communication; social aspects of communication.</p> <ul> <li>Support and consult to all professionals, family members and other communication partners of individuals </li></ul> <p>with speech, voice, language, communication, and swallowing disabilities. Refer when appropriate.</p> <ul> <li>Select, fit and establish effective use of appropriate prosthetic/adaptive devices for speaking and </li></ul> <p>swallowing (e.g., tracheoesophageal valves, electrolarynges, speaking valves, AAC devices).</p> <ul> <li>Use instrument technology to diagnose and treat disorders of communication and swallowing </li></ul> <p>(e.g.videofluoroscopy, nasendoscopy, ultrasonography, stroboscopy).</p> <ul> <li>Provide aural rehabilitation and related counseling services to individuals with hearing loss and to their </li></ul> <p>families.</p> <p>ADMINISTRATIVE:</p> <ul> <li>Partner with front office and management to assure insurance authorization </li><li>Prepare and provide timely written reports to physicians, families, and insurance providers </li><li>Monitor and support policies pertaining to patient/family attendance </li><li>Measure contributions to the department in terms of productivity and related performance accountabilities. </li></ul> <p>QUALITY IMPROVEMENT:</p> <ul> <li>Measure outcomes of treatment and conduct continuous evaluation of the effectiveness of practices and </li></ul> <p>programs to improve and maintain quality of services.</p> <ul> <li>Engage in evidenced-based practice activities </li><li>Participate in chart reviews and environmental rounds. </li></ul> <p>Demonstrates knowledge of the age-related differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific</p> <p>populations from neonate through adolescence and applies them to practice. Demonstrates cultural</p> <p>sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families.</p> <p>Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are</p> <p>consistent with the Connecticut Children's Core Behaviors.</p> <p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>Supervision of graduate students or Clinical Fellows (CFs).</p> <p>Master's degree in Speech/Language Pathology or equivalent is required.</p> <p>Three years' experience in pediatrics and/or hospital setting is preferred.</p> <p>State of Connecticut Speech Pathologist License required;</p> <p>OR eligible for State of Connecticut Speech Pathologist License, AND License required within 45 days.</p> <p>OR, documented plan for supervised professional experience approved by the CT Department of Public</p> <p>Health leading to licensure; License required within one year.</p> <p>Current Certificate of Clinical Competency issued by the American Speech Language Hearing Association</p> <p>within one year of hire.</p> <p>Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR in adult, child & infant within 6 months of hire.</p> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>Theories, principles, techniques & practices of professional speech-language pathology </li><li>Medical terminology </li><li>ICD-9 and CPT medical billing codes </li><li>HIPAA and confidentiality requirements for medical records </li></ul> <p>Skills:</p> <ul> <li>Use beginner to intermediate word processing programs </li><li>Effectively communicate with patients, families, and other providers </li></ul> <p>Ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Follow routine verbal or written instructions </li><li>Gather data, compile information, & prepare reports </li><li>Make administrative and procedural decisions </li><li>Supervise and train new employees and students </li><li>Organize resources and establish priorities </li><li>Operate within the collaborative framework of interdisciplinary patient care </li><li>Analyze and solve complex problems </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>Lifting 5%; Sitting 20%; Walking 20%; Standing 20%; Bending 10%; Keyboarding 15%; Telephone</p>
