<p>Senior Account Clerk JobID: 2033</p> <p>Position Type:</p> <p>Classified Staff/SENIOR ACCT CLK</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>5/9/2025</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>Multiple Locations</p> <p>Closing Date:</p> <p>09/15/2025</p> <p>Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>Applicants - Please note that it is required that you are on an active Senior Account Clerk competitive list with Civil Service to apply.</p> <p>GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES</p> <p>Performs varied and difficult clerical work involving the compilation and maintenance of financial records and may supervise subordinate clerical personnel;performs related duties as required.</p> <p>COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES</p> <p>Under general supervision, this is varied and difficult clerical work involving the keeping and reviewing of financial records and related account-keepingtasks, with some leeway for the exercise of independent judgment in applying prescribed procedures and methods to routine cases.</p> <p>TYPICAL DUTIES</p> <ol> <li> <p>Computes payrolls, deductions, etc., and prepares summary by accounting codesand balances with gross payroll.</p> </li><li> <p>Posts ledgers and journals and summarizes for control.</p> </li><li> <p>Directs and assists in the training and supervision of new employees.</p> </li><li> <p>May operate bookkeeping machine and other office machines.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains a variety of ledgers, entering receipts and disbursements.</p> </li><li> <p>Issues checks; prepares daily bank deposit and reconciles bank statement andposts to cash book.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepares recapitulation of valuation and tax extensions.</p> </li><li> <p>Sets up ledger cards and prepares adjusting journal entries for machine postingand checks accuracy of postings.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepares special reports as required.</p> </li><li> <p>Answers routine correspondence concerning accounts.</p> </li><li> <p>May handle all clerical and bookkeeping functions for employee benefits such ashospitalization, pension, etc., and answers routine inquiries concerning same.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs a variety of related account keeping and clerical tasks.</p> </li><li> <p>May operate a data entry terminal.</p> </li></ol> <ul> <li>TYPICAL ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS </li></ul> <p>FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES</p> <ol> <li> <p>General knowledge of the methods used in keeping financial accounts and records.</p> </li><li> <p>Good knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Thorough knowledge of business arithmetic and English.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to follow complex oral and written directions.</p> </li><li> <p>Clerical aptitudes.</p> </li></ol> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Training and Experience</p> <ol> <li>Graduation from high school, including or supplemented by courses inbookkeeping or accounting </li></ol> <p>and</p> <p>Two years of satisfactory office clerical experience which included as the majorfunction the compilation and maintenance of financial accounts and records;</p> <p>or</p> <ol start="2"> <li>Graduation from high school </li></ol> <p>and</p> <p>Three years of satisfactory office clerical experience which included as the majorfunction the compilation and maintenance of financial accounts and records.</p> <p>NOTE: Experience, as outlined in (1) or (2) above, in excess of the two or three-yearrequirement, respectively, may be substituted for high school education on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years.</p> <p>Non-Discrimination Statement</p> <p>The Nassau BOCES offers employment and educational opportunities without regard to age, color, creed, disability, familial status, gender, gender expression, gender identity, marital status, military/veteran status, national origin, predisposing genetic characteristics, race, religion (including religious practice and/or expression), sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical condition), sexual orientation or victim of domestic violence status.
