<p>The mission of the District Attorney's Office is to seek justice through:</p> <ul> <li>Promoting accountability for criminal offenders. </li><li>Interpreting, enforcing and executing law. </li><li>Responding to the concerns of victims and the public; and </li><li>Working cooperatively with members of the justice system. </li></ul> <p>GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES</p> <p>Independently performs a variety of responsible administrative legal support activities according to established practice and procedures.</p> <p> </p> <p>SUPERVISION RECEIVED</p> <p>Works under the supervision of a Legal Assistant Supervisor, who assigns work, sets goals, and reviews work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with department policies and goals.</p> <p> </p> <p>SUPERVISION EXERCISED</p> <p>Supervision of employees is not a responsibility of positions in this classification.</p> <ul> <li> <p>Phone, walk -in and electronic contacts.</p> </li><li> <p>Receive and handle information & correspondence.</p> </li><li> <p>Answer questions using computer information.</p> </li><li> <p>Refer calls.</p> </li><li> <p>Explain policies and procedures to public.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs other duties as assigned.</p> </li><li> <p>Type dismissals and perform computer data entry for DUII diversions.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain and keep death reports up to date, route death reports, handle Medical Examiner electronic reports.</p> </li><li> <p>Process no-action dispositions and route to Oregon State Police.</p> </li><li> <p>Backup to Grand Jury, Calendar and Discovery and/or cross-train in other Legal Secretary 1 positions where the business need is greatest. </p> </li><li> <p>Miscellaneous projects. </p> </li><li> <p>Outgoing mail - order supplies and sort, bundle, and prepare for daily pick up.</p> </li><li> <p>Pull and file DA files.</p> </li><li> <p>Processing signed orders report.</p> </li><li> <p>Closed mail/filing.</p> </li><li> <p>Backup for go-list.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor and manage incoming e-mails on the MCDA general e-mail.</p> </li><li> <p>Create and manage EDP list.</p> </li><li> <p>Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.</p> </li></ul> <p>EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent; AND </li><li>Two years of experience in office and secretarial work; OR </li><li>Any satisfactory combination of work, education, training, or experience relevant to the position, as determined by Marion County. </li></ul> <p>PREFERENCS</p> <ul> <li>Supplemental secretarial training courses </li></ul> <p>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <ul> <li>This position requires possession of, or obtain within 30 days of hire, Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) certification. </li><li>Must pass a criminal history background investigation, which includes fingerprinting; however, conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual for this classification. </li><li>This is a safety sensitive/special needs position. Final candidates selected for this position will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen, including testing for marijuana. The Marion County Drug and Alcohol Use and Testing Policy can be found at:http://apps.co.marion.or.us/APAP/policy.aspx?p=policy&pid=518. </li><li>This assignment is represented by a union. </li><li>This is a full-time temporary position, which is eligible for overtime. </li><li>Typical Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm or to be determined, with flexibility depending upon the needs of the department and program. </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES</p> <p>Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and techniques; English composition, spelling, and grammar; arithmetic and general record/bookkeeping practices; modern office equipment and machinery and their intended use; a variety of computer systems and software.</p> <p>Skill and abilities to accurately and effectively perform the various assigned tasks and duties following general procedures and program policies; meet and assist the general public and staff in a courteous and professional manner; use tact and judgment in dealing with the public concerning sensitive and confidential matters; understand and effectively follow oral and written instructions, communications, and procedures; apply newly assigned procedures and practices to specific work assignments; type accurately and at an acceptable rate of speed; access and use various computer systems and software; make decisions independently in accordance with established policies; provide backup to other positions as needed.</p>
