<p>Department of Public Works Division Streets and Bridges is seeking a Mason to perform manual and some semi-skilled labor involving repairs or maintenance in the general construction, repair, and maintenance of city sidewalks, streets, bridges and other related duties.</p> <p>The Department of Public Works builds, maintains, and operates the physical facilities that support and enhance the lives of Norfolk's citizens, businesses, and visitors, including the City's Storm Water System, Street Network and Waste Management and Recycling Systems. The Department is comprised of 8 divisions that function collectively to make your commute safe and efficient, your neighborhood more attractive, and the streets and sidewalks clean and well-maintained.</p> <p>Hiring Salary Range: $40,960 - $47,104</p> <p>(Additional $5,000 CDL Stipend upon obtaining Commercial Driver's License)</p> <p>https://youtu.be/kCOQSiAfSeQ</p> <p>Essential functions include but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Spreads, levels, finishes and shapes freshly poured concrete in the repair and construction of a wide variety of structures. </li><li>Prepares sites for concrete work by breaking up damaged concrete, leveling or contouring the ground, building and setting forms, cutting and placing reinforcement materials, and similar activities. </li><li>Uses hand tools and power equipment. </li><li>Builds and/or repairs concrete/asphalt roadways, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, steps, ramps, drainage structures, support structures and related types of structures. </li><li>Cleans work site areas and equipment. </li><li>Direct and instructs less skilled workers as assigned. </li><li>Reads and interprets plans, blueprints and state and federal specifications; performs the necessary tasks according to required standards for dimensions and finishes. </li><li>Requires physical ability to stand, stoop, and bend. </li><li>Must be able to load and unload equipment and lift a maximum of 75 pounds. </li><li>Requires ability to understand oral and written instructions. </li><li>Must be able to drive City vehicles and light construction equipment. </li><li>Requires the ability to perform tasks safely in high-traffic environments, which may involve auditory and visual functions such as detecting sounds, peripheral awareness, low-light visibility, and depth perception. </li><li>Must be able to work long shifts in adverse weather conditions, night or day, including extreme heat or cold and under emergency conditions. </li></ul> <p>Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.</p> <p>One years experience in masonry, asphalt or concrete.</p> <p>Preferred License(s) and/or Certification(s): Must possess Driver's License. Must provide a copy of Division of Motor Vehicle driving record (obtained within last 30 days) during the interview.</p> <p>Must obtain a class B commercial driver's license within six months of employment with the City.</p>
