Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities but may involve work as a project leader.</p> <p>Incumbents receive minimal supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek that may include evening and weekend hours. Work is performed in an office where normal working conditions are encountered. Work requires minimal physical exertion.</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:</p> <p>Education: Have a master's degree from an accredited college or university in urban or regional planning, sustainability, environmental studies, historic preservation, architecture, architectural history, nutrition, public administration, public health or a closely related field such as transportation.</p> <p>AND</p> <p>Experience: Have two years of experience in performing urban, regional, transportation, environmental, sustainability, food access, emergency or historic designation planning work.</p> <p>OR</p> <p>Equivalency Notes: Have equivalent combination of education and experience</p> <p>Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates: Some positions in this class may require a Maryland Class C driver's license.</p> <p>APPLICATION DEADLINE: Please submit your application no later than 12:00 AM on the closing date to be eligible for consideration.</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of the principles and techniques of urban planning or emergency planning. </li><li>Knowledge of research principles and methodology related to urban planning, environmental, sustainability, or emergency programs. </li><li>Knowledge of architectural design and guidelines as applied to historic buildings and neighborhoods. </li><li>Knowledge of the principles and theories of art, history, architecture and historic preservation. </li><li>Knowledge of the principles of political science, economics, sociology and the other social sciences. </li><li>Knowledge of accepted environmental and sustainability practices </li><li>Knowledge of accepted green building and sustainable development practices. </li><li>Knowledge of environmental purchasing policies. </li><li>Skill in analyzing facts and exercising sound aesthetic judgment. </li><li>Skill in preparing detailed urban plans and designs. </li><li>Skill in environmental purchasing policies. </li><li>Ability to prepare complex reports. </li><li>Ability to prepare grants and complete grant applications and administer grants. </li><li>Ability to establish and work effectively with community and business groups, property owners, cultural institutions and government agencies. </li><li>Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. </li></ul> <p>ADDITIONAL INFORMATION</p> <p>Background Check</p> <p>Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.</p> <p>Probation</p> <p>All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month's probation.</p> <p>Eligibility</p> <p>Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.</p> <p>Education Accreditation</p> <p>Applicants' education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.</p> <p>SELECTION PROCESS</p> <p>All candidates indicating the minimum qualifications on their applications will be placed on the eligible list without further examination. The training and experience of each candidate will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity. It is essential, therefore, that you give complete and accurate information on your application. Qualified candidates will not be listed in rank order.</p> <p>EXAMINATION PROCESS</p> <p>Applicants must provide sufficient information on their application to show that they meet the qualifications for this recruitment. Successful applicants will be placed on the employment certified eligible list for at least six months.</p> <p>The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete supplemental questions to further examine specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities of the position.
