Reports to the department leadership.</p> </li><li> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> </li><li> <p>Educates staff about relevant cultural beliefs and behaviors presented by Limited English Proficiency patients and families that may affect health outcomes.</p> </li><li> <p>Provides sight translation of consent forms and other medical documents.</p> </li><li> <p>Participates in continuing education programs and competency training to enhance interpreter role.</p> </li><li> <p>Serves as a resource for staff in assessing and addressing the cultural needs and concerns of the Hispanic population.</p> </li><li> <p>Provides general information and referrals to community services.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.</p> </li><li> <p>LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS</p> </li><li> <p>CLAS interpreter certification such as VA AHEC preferred.</p> </li><li> <p>MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS</p> </li><li> <p>Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.</p> </li><li> <p>At least one year of Spanish Medical Interpretation experience necessary.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrates proficiency in medical terminology in a health care setting. Interpreting in Health and Community Settings (minimum 40 hour training) required.</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.</p> </li><li> <p>Proficient in Microsoft Office, (Excel, Word, Outlook).</p> </li><li> <p>Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Bilingual grammatical oral and written fluency in English and Spanish.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrates the ability to provide consecutive interpretation, sight translation of consent forms and other medical documents.</p> </li><li> <p>Able to translate documents from English into Spanish.</p> </li><li> <p>Fluent native Spanish speaker and cultural background preferred.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledgeable about community resources and service agencies.</p> </li><li> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS</p> </li><li> <p>Patient care environment with exposure to environmental hazards including, but not limited to communicable diseases. Job will include normal office environment and travel to and through patient care areas.
