<p>The Setnor School of Music within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks Part-Time Instructor to teach JMC (Jazz and Commercial Music) Ensembles, a 0-1 credit hour course, during the Fall and Spring Semesters, 2025-26.</p> <p>Instructor of JCM Ensembles - Small ensemble jazz/commercial rhythm section performance experience for students.</p> <p>The Setnor School of Music offers a variety of choral and instrumental ensembles open to students of all majors across Syracuse University and the neighboring SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. To learn more about the college, our distinguished faculty, and our program, please visit our websites at www.syr.edu, www.vpa.syr.edu.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Relevant academic credentials and experience including:</p> <ul> <li>A minimum of a master's degree in music (jazz or commercial performance or equivalent experience preferred). </li><li>Experience teaching at the collegiate level. </li><li>Jazz/Commercial Music performance credentials. </li><li>Jazz/Commercial ensemble directing experience. </li></ul> <p>Job Specific Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>The candidate should have strong attention to detail, knowledge of course content, demonstrated pedagogical ability, as well as the ability to relate well in a classroom and one-on-one environment with college-level students. </li><li>Preference will be given to applicants who could potentially fulfill multiple positions within the Setnor School of Music. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Collaborate to build and maintain the jazz/commercial area. </li><li>Prepare and attend ensemble performances as indicated in School of Music calendar. </li><li>Develop and/or update a class syllabus. Prepare student assignments. </li><li>Maintain regularly scheduled office hours. </li><li>Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course. </li><li>Meet all designated class periods. </li><li>Attend jazz faculty orientation meeting, and jazz faculty meetings throughout the semester (approximately 3 per semester). </li><li>Submit completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations. </li><li>Grade student assignments and exams in timely manner. </li><li>Provide departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations. </li><li>Build a positive rapport with students and other faculty. </li><li>Support student performances at major jazz & commercial music events where possible. </li></ul> <p>In addition:</p> <ul> <li>If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. </li><li>You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <p>Not Applicable</p> <p>Tools/Equipment</p> <p>Not Applicable</p> <p>Application Instructions</p> <p>In addition to completing an online application, please attach a resume/curriculum vitae and cover letter.</p>
