Pending position clearance.</p> <p>Our campus welcomes all students but given our responsibilities to the community in which we operate, as part of our strategic mission, we strive to become a Native Hawaiian Place of Learning, a place that is committed to integrating Native Hawaiian language, culture and/or values into its academic and campus environment.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Conduct research or undertake comparable scholarly activity and establish an externally funded and nationally recognized research program. </li><li>Supervise independent study activities and off-campus learning such as practicums and internships. </li><li>Serve as academic advisor to students. </li><li>Participate on committees in charge of candidates for advanced degrees. </li><li>Conduct assigned courses orseminars. </li><li>Serve on University committees. </li><li>Participate in curriculum development activities including the development of curricular. materials and special instructional methods. </li><li>Render service to the professional or lay community which is relevant to the individual's academic specialty. </li><li>Engage with faculty, staff, and students in a collaborative fashion that supports Indigenous values and whose personal and professionalperspectivesenriches the University, SOEST, the Department, and the broader communities we serve. </li><li>Perform related tasks as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree (at the time of appointment) from a college or university of recognized standing and in a field relevant to the position (Earth, Ocean or Atmospheric Sciences, Geology and Geophysics, Geography or related fields). </li><li>Demonstrated scholarly achievement. </li><li>Demonstrated excellence in professional written and oral communication. Examples include, but are not limited to, publications in peer reviewed scientific journals, technical reports, public- focused communications, and presentations at professional meetings. </li><li>Ability to establish an extramurally funded research program. </li><li>Expertise in producingrecords that enhance our understanding of past and present climate dynamics, and inform projections of future climate. </li><li>Demonstrated ability as a teacher. </li><li>Ability and interest in working with people of diverse perspectives and experiences, and supporting Indigenous approaches, values, and knowledge with respect and cultural sensitivity. </li><li>Expressed interest in a future research and teaching program that contributes to the UH mission of becoming a Native Hawaiian place of Learning (https://manoa.hawaii.edu/nhpol/). </li><li>Qualities (ability to work collaboratively, proactively, reliably, with good interpersonal communication skills) and motivation for promoting a positive and supportive work environment among students, staff, and faculty that supports Indigenous values and people with diverse perspectives and experiences. </li><li>Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others. </li><li>Demonstrated achievement of creative, high-quality research and the potential for scientific leadership including making transformative advances in the field. </li><li>Demonstrated capacity for excellence in teaching and mentoring, including creative approaches for enhancing student learning, and engaging students in research </li></ul> <p>Desirable Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Record of extramural research funding or leadership in paleoclimate research programs. </li><li>Record of excellence in teaching and mentoring, including creative approaches for enhancing student learning. </li><li>Expertise and desire to teach courses in environmental Earth sciences at the graduate and undergraduate levels. </li><li>Record of nationally or internationally recognized research accomplishments. </li><li>Expressed interest in scientific endeavors relevant to Hawaii and the Pacific region. </li><li>Expertise and ability to relate their scholarly activities to recent climate change, potential mitigation strategies, coupled human and natural systems or other societal implications of their work. </li><li>Research skills and interests that complement and enhance the research activities in Earth Sciences and other units at University of Hawaii as well as State and Federal agencies in Hawaii. </li></ul> <p>To Apply:</p> <p>Applications must be filed online at https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/hawaiiedu.
