<p>Description</p> <p>The Department of Transportation is looking to hire a Engineering Technician IV in the Division of Construction for Special Use Permits. This position is responsible for monitoring Special Use Permits and monitoring utility work in addition to working with contractors, residents and outside agencies to solve complaints</p> <p>The starting salary will be between $21.73 - $26.08 hourly and it will be based on experience and qualifications. This position will work out of the Construction Offices in Maryland Heights.</p> <p>Each snow season Department employees that arerequired(as defined by their job description) to work snow will receive a $6 per hour increase when they report for emergency snow removal services.</p> <p>As an employer, St. Louis County cares about the health and well-being of our employees. For more information regarding this program, please visithttps://studentaid.gov/manage-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/public-service.</p> <p>Examples of Duties</p> <ul> <li>Inspect and review Special Use Permits (SUP) and new subdivision projects to ensure compliance with constructions specifications, plans and procedures. </li><li>Monitor land disturbance inspections and new subdivision developments in unincorporated St. Louis County. </li><li>Assist in escrow final inspections as required. </li><li>Assist in the review and interpretation of construction plans for contractors. </li><li>Document permit work using Accela for SUP projects and close out when completed. </li><li>Assist with more complex field related issues. </li><li>Meet, assess and inspect the work of contractors, consultants, utility company representatives and residents to resolve issues. </li><li>Delegate work to subordinate inspectors as required. </li><li>Assume call one week per month after hours duty rotation for emergency call outs. </li><li>Issue stop work orders on SUP Projects as required. </li><li>Perform a variety of routine Lab and field testing procedures on construction materials to ensure conformance with specifications and prepare reports of results obtained. </li><li>Perform safety checks of work sites and observes work in progress for compliance with established work procedures. </li><li>Work 12 hour emergency shifts to remove snow and ice. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Requires college level coursework in engineering and mathematics, and five years of experience in roadway construction inspection or a related field. Requires a current, valid a driver's license.</p> <p>Additional Information</p> <p>SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.</p> <p>The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.</p> <p>The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.</p> <p>All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory.
